Can’t remember who lives in ABQ but I’m passing through in a few hours. What’s a good lunch spot? I want to eat something you can’t get anywhere else…. Or maybe you can get it but you’d never order it anywhere else. Something with chiles!

If you want to meet up dm me your # and I’ll text, should be around 2pm.

      Arch for your time

@beefchips As far as I know, Frontier Restaurant near UNM is quite the staple. Another place I like there is El Patio De Albuquerque which is just down the street from Frontier; it's small though and there might be a wait for a weekend lunch.

@beefchips Any of the Garcia's Kitchen locations will do you right for a quicker lunch. Sadie's is also a top choice. El Pinto is top choice if you're looking for a longer lunch. If you are looking for New Mexican food, the dish you should benchmark by is enchiladas, and they should always be stacked and with egg(s) on top.

I'm waving in your general direction from 3 hours down the road in Las Cruces.

@beefchips I hit up a little mom and pop Mexican joint in ABQ last time I was there. It was in the university district, but I forget the name. Fantastic adovada.

@beefchips Dion's also a classic, green chili on pizza count? Frontier always good. Sadies can't be beat if you like it on the hotter side. Also many green 🌶️ cheeseburger places.

Casual sit-down dining abounds, as do one-off to local-chain Mexican places. Choices would depend on how heavily you want to eat before presumed further driving and how far you want to go off the freeway.

Frontier is a sui-generis just-off-campus hangout. There is a bit of off-street parking. They definitely have chile. Service is not quite fast food but moves right along. Not convenient to the Interstate.

Most or all of their menu is available at local drive-through chain Golden Pride, which also has chicken, hence the name If you are passing through east-west on I-40, take the Eubank Avenue exit, go south on Eubank a few blocks, turn right on Central (just before you get to what looks like "the only Costco with its own ICBM," courtesy of the National Museum of Nuclear Science and Hiistory, kitty-corner across the street) and make another right off Central pretty soon (immediately past Autozone). They have breakfast burritos and carne adovada burritos (a simple wonderful thing basically consisting of pork slow-cooked in red chile, wrapped in a tortilla).

The Range Cafe has unfortunately closed its close-to-the-freeway location, but is very good at their mash-up of diner, foodie, and traditional Mexican influences.

For fancier sit-down dining, possibly followed by lay-down spending-the-night (their portions are generous and their tequila bar is considerable) El Pinto is hard to beat. Not convenient to the freeway. Nice Santa Fe-ish ambience in restaurant and area. Off-street parking abounds.

@beefchips I'd recommend The Sawmill Market https://www.sawmillmarket.com/ . They have lots of food options all in one place.
