Company Car Review: Ford Fusion Energi Plug-in Hybrid
-
It's a car. It does car stuff. I can charge it at work and if I'm not doing any driving besides my commute it never needs to use the gas engine.
It's boring though. The CVT makes power output unpredictable because throttle level no longer corresponds to engine note, and it steers like a minivan. Also, when it's out of juice and functioning like a regular hybrid it's slow as balls.
-
Sooo the short take is “meh, it’s a car”?

And I think that was the goal. So, expectations met?
-
Success! Boring achievement unlocked! Sometimes car = car = yes.
-
Also, I realize that could be misinterpreted as being insulting. Not my intention. Sometime a person just wants a car to act like a car and be reliable. My wife’s Juke is that car for us. My Eagle is the problem child...
-
I have a soft spot for these - and imagine they can be had pretty cheaply used (especially as time goes on, similar to the C-Max). Nothing exciting for us enthusiasts from a fun perspective, but for many folks who just need transportation (which coincidentally I too appreciate for my commute in the olden days) they're pretty damn appealing. Given that my Bolt is currently a friggin lawn ornament with 260 miles of range I kind of wish I had gone this route right now.
-
@zhp-sparky-the-5th it's a car that's completely free for me to use. I'm not complaini g no matter how terrible it is.

...isn't that the take on pretty much every Ford bar the Mustang and the trucks...?
-
@rallydarkstrike you just listed all the remaining North American Fords!
But old Oppo had a hardon for the current gen Fiesta and Focus.
-
@rallydarkstrike Ooooo, shots fired! But I'd toss that metric onto most manufactures these days.
-
@sn4cktimes haven’t you heard? The current gen Focus and Fiesta are absolutely perfect cars with no flaws whatsoever.

That is true, the Fiesta and Focus ST aren't bad cars. I did forget those, but most of their current North American sales are boring and bland
-
@rallydarkstrike I mean my brother's older Fusion is just "a car" except it has uncomfortable seats that stain permanently if you get them wet and the trim likes to come off in your hand. Oh, and it looks like it flew too close to the sun. Drives like a car, looks and feels like crap.
-
@interstate366 What, because there is no current gen? Can't have problems if there isn't a car. Same goes to blogs and customers.
-
@whoistheleader no, it’s mocking the people who fell in love with the current gen of them when I think they’re hideous and am glad we didn’t get them here
-
Hmm. What year is it? Looks like they might've updated the interior from the 1995-lookin'-ass one I tested a few years ago.
I concur: Slow as balls.
-
@interstate366 I've been in a lot of Fords and I don't see one of them ever being my own. Well, FoST, FiST, and maybe a Mustang and certainly the Bronco, but certainly I wouldn't look to them for my appliances. I love to hate Ford but I do love some of the vehicles they make.
-
@WhoIsTheLeader I do respect the amount of work they've seemed to put into the Bronco...and the Mustang EV (except that they called it a Mustang...)
-
@rallydarkstrike Naming conventions aside, I think the Mach e is one of the best ideas to come out of Detroit lately and execution seems fantastic. It's just that the marketing people got involved in all the wrong ways. I'll never call it a Mustang.
-
Same, It'll only be the Mach E to me. It seems pretty decent for a EV crossover though.....even the Mach E's 475km (482, depending who you ask) range is pretty respectable.
