Laptop question and recommendation

Looks generally OK. Memory is probably marginal at 8GB these days. Just don't have too many Chrome tabs open at once.
The one issue I see is that it is very slim, so heat might be a problem and may reduce its life. The processor is likely to be running hot all the time.

That resolution is gonna be downright ghastly on a 15.6" laptop, I wouldn't even accept it on a 13" nowadays. For that size chassis 1920x1080 is ideal 1600x900 is the absolute minimum, and if you care at all about battery life try to get either AMD or Intel 12th gen. Let me rummage around a bit and see what I can find in that price bracket.

It's got an i3-1115G4. It shouldn't run too hot. I would expect thermal performance to be fine. It's a lower-power CPU in a large case, so it should be able to get rid of the heat. It won't be a top performer, but it should be adequate for elementary school kids.

@Cash-Rewards the display is catastrophic, specially the brightness... Maybe Lenovo sells one with a smaller display with better performance. The rest of the specs are OK. I really appreciate that it has an NVME drive as opposed to a spinning hard disk.
I had a Lenovo Ideapad S340 from five years ago, it was a good PC for me, but it had a much better display than the one you link.

My wife picked up something very similar to this one to do some wavepad audio editing etc and she's been happy. (hers has a touchscreen)The only niggle is a fairly loud fan -
@Cash-Rewards Lenovo's having a sale right now. Head over here and check out this one (SKU 82RN000UUS). It's got a brighter & higher resolution touchscreen, more storage, bigger battery, and a backlit keyboard. For the extra $130 I guarantee you'll be much happier than with the one you found.

@Cash-Rewards Go find a used Macbook Air on Ebay. The build quality and reliability will be leaps and bounds over anything new for $300-$400.

Eh...I dunno....I think resolution is a bit of a personal preference. My current older-but-upgraded Lenovo ThinkPad T520 with an Intel Core i5 2520M @ 3.2Ghz, upgraded 12GB of RAM, an upgraded 500GB SSD and running Linux Mint MATE 21 has a max resolution of 1366x768 and I find it 100% perfectly fine
If he's just doing basics with it, that resolution is still completely usable. Hell, I create my Inkscape RedBubble art on this laptop at that resolution most of the time (rather than my 1080p older gaming Win10 desktop downstairs) and even that now-comparatively-lower 1366x768 resolution these days has never once been an issue or caused me any bother...?

@EssExTee lol, but even on Windows I would find that same resolution completely acceptable. It's not AMAZING, no, but it's perfectly adequate still for just the basic everyday stuff like web browsing and Netflix and the like unless one REALLY cares about streaming things in super high def.

For general use, I would go with a business grade laptop like a Lenovo Thinkpad or a Dell Latitude. Here are a couple of laptops I would buy with my own money (prices in CAD$ - and after you do the currency conversion, they're better deals than that one you linked from Amazon)
