Semi-sorta dick move for the betterment of me.

@jminer I didn't actually say I was sick, I just said I was taking the day... Colleague wasn't too happy about that... if I had told a little white lie that may've gone a bit better...
-
@e90m3 As of now, yes. I would like to not be employed with my current company soon though.

If anyone on my team needs a day, they can take the day, I don't question it. I do get chatter above me for it at times, but we aren't meant to be slaves to our work and they may have stuff going on they don't want to share, you should be ale to take PTO and move on without worry of repercussions or shame. A one-off now and again is a different beast from frequent and impactful absenteeism.
Good for you, both for seeing a friend off, I presume hanging out with the madre and for taking the important first steps to improve your work situation.
One comment I'll make as a hiring manager, cater the resume you send out a bit for each role (if appropriate) to highlight the specific skills you think are of most benefit to the role applied. It doesn't always make a difference but will never hurt. Take a look at written publications, digital media, and even some of the bigger Youtube outfits. Cars&Bids, Donut, and Hoonigan all have writing staff among others. Also editing gigs are great if you love reading and revising -- and should be possible as a full-time remote gig.

So, anyone looking for a people-oriented employee with a Bachelor's in creative writing and a background in car parts?
Have you considered writing novels? "It was the best of carburetors and it was the worst of carburetors."
-
good luck
-
@Taylor-Martin my preferred text is something like "I feel lousy today and am taking the day off"
It's accurate while also being incredibly vague.

dont lie and dont say any more than you actually have to. speak in facts. "im taking the day, ill be back tomorrow."
thats it. thats all you owe them. dont feel bad about it.

@Roadkilled I don’t think that’s the title I’d go with, as I don’t own any carbed cars (yet)…
Maybe “it was the best of timing belts, it was the worst of timing belts”
But in seriousness, writing a novel would be cool… all I have to do is sit down and write it lol

.....At this point, I'll take a remote gig again. I didn't know how to work one before, but since I have more things to do, and I remember how much I enjoy working outside, I really have no excuse
....So, anyone looking for a people-oriented employee with a Bachelor's in creative writing and a background in car parts? There's a few people you should meet I think. I hope you do so if you make it to Detroit.

To be, or not to be. That is the question. Whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of a carbureted car, or to take up fuel injection against a sea of troubles.

@Nibby If only I knew what she was saying... and why you posted it... and what it means...
