Just a reminder: you can get a minivan with VTEC

Bisimoto FTW
I do enjoy giving the Odyssey the occasional Italian Tuneup from time to time.
-
@dogisbadob The newer Odysseys are actually really fun too drive. Way more power than a minivan needs. AND the VTEC hits hard.
-
@HFV-now-with-more-H My friend has a 2018 and yeah it seems perfectly reasonable to drive. Not exactly sporty, but not a penalty box either.
-
@dogisbadob It's hard to buy a car nowadays without some form of VVT/L
-
@EssExTee Some versions are better than... others:
-
@Qaaaaa IT WORKS FINE
-
@ibRAD I really wish it werenโt so maintenance dependent. I kinda want a 1.4t Dart. But well maintained examples donโt exist.
-
@dogisbadob Looks like, "Yo, VTEC kicked in.."
-
@Qaaaaa As I understand it, you're good as long as you keep up with your oil changes/levels. I'm about to hit 100k miles so I guess I'll find out!
-
Just buy the plug-in Pacifica lol
-
My Odyssey turns 20 years old this year. Time for a replacement?
-
@ttyymmnn Mine is only 18
Probably should do VCM mod on it, it's starting on a P0420 -
Edit to add: I thought you said it was an 18, not 18 years old. My bad, ignore the rest.
Have you had the injectors replaced? Your van should be eligible for SB20-100 if you haven't gone in to the dealer for this issue yet. Next time the check engine light comes on take it to the dealer. There is a software update and then they should do an air/fuel balance test. If that test fails (which it inevitably will) then you will get a new fuel injector kit.
Warranty coverage is 10 years or 150,000 miles for this service bulletin.
"SB20-100 Warranty Extension: MIL Comes On with DTC P0420/P0430, P030x,
and/or P219A/B (With Software Update)"I have never seen a VCM issue on this generation of J series V6. Honda got their shit sorted for these ones.

@TheBarber Yeah it's at the age where cat codes are not unexpected.
My wife did me the favor of bumping it into my car yesterday as well, so that was nice

@dogisbadob I mean the Pentastars have VVT as well and they're no slouch.
-
@ForSweden Consumer Reports just gave it 3 for reliability! (out of 100)
-
@amoore100 Consumer Reports also panders to whoever "donates" the most money to them........

My wife's pilot has the same old-school v-tech kick. When it hits, its more fun than it should be and sounds way better than a V6 in a midsize SUV has any right to.
-
@CoolMinivan-Nobody but the 300 gets 99!
-
@amoore100 With the exact same engine under the hood and almost all the same electronics......
Meanwhile the Odyssey which is still notorious for transmission issues, oil consumption, and electronic failures gets a 78/100......
Nope, no bias there. -
@CoolMinivan-Nobody I mean I'm as suspicious of CR's reporting as anyone else, but Honda's gotten enough time to work out the kinks so I doubt the modern models are as bad as our RL3 has been.
-
@CoolMinivan-Nobody This familiar van popped up on suggestions.... hmmm I wonder who's that could have been?

Except it's Honda and they just claim 3-4 qts of oil consumption is normal and leave the consumer to deal with it........
-
@Mr-Ontop That's funny it popped in your suggestions.
