Sadly? They'll likely be up. Because that's how 2020 rolls.
-
There's only 400-600 active OPPO members, based on who's signed up here and at the hyphen.
As much as I'd love for it to make a dent, it probably won't.
Rory did say that OPPO helped Jalopnik's rankings in search results, though, so we'll see. Please report back.
-
I'm hoping it'll tank a bit, you have to remember that oppo wasn't the only sub-blog to Jalop so might be quite a few less frequent visitors to that site
-
@hooker To be honest, I don't think the few dozen active users of Oppo not going to Jalopnik any longer - after not going there forever in the first place - is going to make a big change to their traffic. Even all of the oppo users - the few hundred - won't make that much of a change with 6+ million views.
I just hope they keep crashing and burning. Idiotic management.
-
@davesaddiction Wonder how many more lurked.

I do wonder if Oppo traffic counts against the chart above. Even if it did, you are probably right, I don't think It'll matter much. One can hope
-
@musashi66 I hope the good writers there find somewhere else quick. It would be cool to see Torch over at The Drive.
-
@musashi66 Killing Oppo is like car makers killing their halo sports cars. It's not good in the long run. Even Carlos Gohn knew not to kill the aging Z even if didn't give it any meaningful refreshes.

That is the takeaway point. I think their traffic will degrade as people get frustrated with the ad saturation over there. I get that you gotta pay the bills. But ads don't need to be that level of embedded throughout the article itself. I used to read The Ride all the time until they had their management switch up/take-over. Then the site just became too annoying to use anymore. Jalps biggest loss will be content highlighting for FP articles. But let's be honest. There's no stopping them from perusing the current site for ideas.
But TLDR version: our lack of visits won't count for much.
-
@sn4cktimes its not just the ads but the layout too, almost impossible to navigate.
-
@DAWRX Agreed. It is very busy
-
I'm hoping the Hyphen can slide it's way up the Google rankings!
-
Yikes. Very curious what it looked like 2-3 years ago on the same system. I didn't focus much on analytics beyond figuring out what was a hit on Chartbeat, but from what I'd get passed along from those who had to have their face down in the overall numbers, these are already way down.
I daresay the surprise-deletion wasn't the Jalopnik site staff's call, so I hate that they're stuck with this. The herb couldn't run a toilet, much less a website.
-
@e90m3 I haven't seen BM2 yet. How's he doing?

He seems to be doing pretty well, chatted with him tonight.
-
@stef-schrader it's over. Time to let go.
-
That's the thing, though: I actually care about the folks who stayed and wish them well. Most of my best work is on that website and I am absolutely livid at the ad-ridden hellhole the herbs want to turn it into.
A nice start would be yeeting Spanfeller onto a nearly inaccessible island with no internet access and taking over the website, but y'know.
