3.0 CLS Revealed

Pretty much as expected! M4-based bodykit that does a decent job at homage-ing the 3.0 CSL. I can only hope those grilles make it to the LCI M4... but probably not.
The side view is interesting, and a little sad. They brought back the Hofmeister kink, but it's obviously an applique over the M4's factory windows. If they were only making 50 of these, they could have gone through the trouble of integrating this element more cleanly. Also, what the hell is that fake vent on the front fender? Not even a black fake grille panel to make it look at lease somewhat real? This is how they do vents on cheap die-cast models.
Nice to see the carbon air-direction thingies on top of the fenders.
Notice how the tail lights dive into that wide fender. I'm pretty sure those are regular M4 lights that are partially covered by the new fender. That's the kind of thing kit car makers do to make their light look less borrowed from someone else's parts bin. It works reasonably well here, but I wish they bothered to make the internal LED structure follow the new shape more. Now the strips kind of ... disappear behind the quarterpanel.
Not for nothin', it's a manual!
The press release doesn't directly quote the weight, but offers an opportunity do do some fun math. They quote a 2.9kg/hp ratio, and power of 560hp. That means the weight is 1624kg or 3580lbs. That's roughly 275lbs lighter than the regular M4 and 60lbs lighter than the M4 CSL, which is prety good!

@WBizarre A BMW with a not terrible bumper. What a concept!

@WBizarre I agree about the Hoffmeister kink. They could have worked that in properly and put the rounded on the paint, but I like the car overall.

I don't know how its possible but the huge nostrils (grille) don't seem too bad on this car

When I saw this last night I was trying to figure out what car it’s based on because there’s no way BMW or any volume automaker could afford to make a road legal one-off car for less than a million+.
I think you’re spot on with the 4-series donor. And agreed on the stupid fenders.
But it feels damned good to see BMW make a car with a not-horrible front fascia again. Looking at you, M2/3/4!

@WBizarreI Ah the 2015 Hommage R Concept that's now a reality. I have the 1:18 scale car that always though was bad ass that BMW put out a few years ago. Now there's the 1:1 scale that's going to be waay $$$.
