Anyone hanging out on Jalopnik?
-
I haven't bothered since the hyphen came to be, the endless ads and looped videos, the sub standard writing, etc.. also, why support Herb? I imagine their numbers are way down
-
@midengine I haven't been. I'd like to support the writers, but I've just fallen out of the habit, now that Jalopnik is the only site remaining on my Kinja dashboard.
-
@midengine I haven't popped on there, or Drive Tribe, or really any automotive source other than this (and the links people post here). This is the hub.
-
@midengine I stopped going there, but their numbers are up 5+ %
-
Wuts jalopnik? I only know of the glorious hyphen

I try to check in one or twice a week to support Torch, David, Mercedes and LJ. Rory fought for us; he didn't succeed in the end, but he bought us the time we needed to save the community and get archives made.
I changed my screenname on Kinja to:
davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com
Any of you who still comment over there might consider doing the same - might catch some old OPPO lurkers who haven't made it over here yet (or "new blood").
-
@musashi66 Wow, I never expected that! Odd
-
@midengine I haven't been there since the new Oppo - no reason.
The only writers I like are Torchinski and David Tracy, but my time is better spent here.
-
Only if something is posted here, and these days that’s usually not something excellent.
-
@midengine Nope. Deleted my bookmark and haven't been back since the Herbening.
-
@midengine I check it every few days on my laptop; it’s UNBEARABLE on mobile. I don’t have a comment account on there at all. Haven’t for years. There are still interesting articles there once in a while.
-
what is a jallo picnik?

My sentiments exactly. Great people, too bad about the platform now. Good idea about the the screen name change.

It's where they serve things like this
-
@midengine Im trying. In fact I'm writing something for them right now with DT. The quality of the material has definitely taken a dive. Mercedes is good, DT is good. Every now and again we get something good from the new authors. The rest is sort of lazy, misinformed hot takes. I hate to admit it, but I actually started to wonder if I should even submit my content to the site on account of the content quality. Not that Im saying my stuff is amazing, but I did work my ass off writing it.

Hmmm
Are they still hiring?
-
I go to Jalopnik if I have time. I usually peruse the new articles but don't often click and read many of them. Far too politically charged most of the time, and usually the rest of the time it's boring recycled stories. I do read and enjoy the occasional article.
-
No, but that was true before the split.
-
@midengine it's still part of my muscle memory (anyone else have only like 5 sites on the entire internet they visit?) so I end up on there on a daily basis still. The content is still mostly bad though - every now and then there are a few good pieces and good comment threads, but mostly garbage.
On that first point about sites folks visit though...I think I might start a thread about that to get some fresh ideas!
-
My participation is strictly limited to searching for Acura articles and then fact checking the fuck out of them. The new layout and the writers are crap. DT is good, but he doesn't write stuff I'm interested in for the most part. Since they've completely botched so many pieces on Acura I just can't be bothered anymore.
-
I look from time to time when something pops up on Facebook like on Wednesday on the Ford Focus door protectors Torch was writing about, that have also been and still are on the Skoda Kamiq, Superb and Kodiaq.
Focus
Kodiaq

@midengine Jawhatnow?
-
I stopped visiting once the Hyphen was up and running. I've started going to thedrive for my auto news lately.
-
I still check but after I was grayed for a comment I made to Shilling it's not really worth it. I can't get a comment through anymore which takes away the fun of the site.
I like DT and Torch, Mercedes is getting better and I still enjoy Tom's advice but Raph and Shilling grate on me and I haven't gotten to know the new guys much. The writing just isn't what it used to be and the fun has been taken out of it.
-
@midengine I have Jalopnik in my RSS reader so I do see the list of new articles and who wrote them, but I don't browse the site any more.
