Good Morning, Oppo
-
It's Friday, and I have absolutely no idea what is going on here.
-
@ttyymmnn Schlörwagen is what's going on!
https://www.wired.com/2014/09/german-aerodynamic/At one point during WWII, they mounted the powerplant from a captured Soviet plane to back to give a bit more oomph.

@ttyymmnn
Helicon revisited but with less wind in your face!
-
@cé-hé-sin Was that a real thing somebody drove around? Seems like the prop wouldn’t be all that efficient with so much car behind it. And yeah, better wear some goggles!
-
@facw I imagine it worked.

Speaking of loud, I always wondered what it would have been like to sit in the passenger compartment of the Northrop Alpha, sandwiched between that big old P&W R-1340 in front and a giant tank of gas behind.

@ttyymmnn Another article on the Schlörwagen is here.

@roadkilled Neat. If you think about it, this could very well be the car of the future, with modern materials and a modern drive train.

Deafness and explosive fear. It's so crazy it looks photoshopped. -
@looseonexit They just took the place they originally intended for mail and crammed seats in it. Kind of like the Ryan Standard J.
-
@looseonexit I would also add, expanding on the bit about carrying passengers instead of mail, that the first paying aircraft passenger made the flight sitting on a sack of mail.
-
@ttyymmnn very much so!
