shit...
-
Sure hope we get the "locked" version for a couple weeks... I didn't grab everything yet.
-
@davesaddiction with all the herb memes at the end I doubt it. Also did anyone ever confirm what that "atom feed" was?
-
Be with all the Herb memes, this is a fuck you.
-
Maybe it's because we had three consecutive days of people posting fuck Herb and whatnot... That's why I grabbed my photos last week.
-
@dawrx Hopefully it's still available to the mod team.
-
damn...missed getting this one in on kinja before the end
https://makeagif.com/i/Ig5brC -
@dawrx I looked into it, but I couldn't find a viable Atom feed, even when using the appropriate software.
-
-
@dawrx It may be my incompetence at RSS/Atom feeds. Funny thing was that the Jalopnik feed worked fine.
-
@mastermario too bad, it’s a good one
-
@dr-zoidberg I'm not buying it; that's like the people blaming us for the site going down because we weren't using the image thing they dropped on us with no explanations.
-
@dr-zoidberg We had a date, and most of us had already posted our sentimental posts. Did you expect us not to shitriot?
-
It's also possible they don't know how to lock posting but leave the site up as read-only, so they just shutdown the server... I mean, do you remember all the hilarity around the Deadspin exit where the Dev team couldn't remove the Herb post, so they just kept changing the date to hide it? That went on for several days...
-
-
@skyfire77 Maybe, but it's clear that the "blog viewable for two weeks" blurb was not binding.
-
I seriously doubt it. Doing so was probably too difficult. Why spend time and money making them locked anyways when you could just turn them off sneakily?
-
@jayvincent It was probably was too much time and money to develop a read-only mode. That would probably entail developing a way to ban everyone from every community without accidentally banning the FP authors.
-
@WhoIsTheLeader - you are probably correct, even if they removed authorship rights from everyone, we would still be able to respond in the grays. If they went all Deadspin on us and removed the comment section entirely, it wouldn't be much of an archive, would it?
-
-
@jayvincent You are assuming they know what makes people want to use their platform and I wouldn't give them that much credit. Removing the comments section from personal blogs and removing all authorship rights probably just wasn't a good use of resources.
-
@whoistheleader It was clearly expensive as hell, but how could they not figure out a way to monetize it? It was a big captive audience on their platform - stupid to cut us all free.
-
@davesaddiction I agree. They had all these people using their platform for free and instead of handing them a bucket bail them out of a sinking ship they promised the first life raft and then just pushed them overboard without a raft or even a life preserver.
-
@davesaddiction I took a trip down memory lane last night. Just looked at oppo, and I has a sad.
-
@saracen I'm pissed at myself for not being more on the ball last week to save things...
-
@davesaddiction I didn't really have time. I was out most of the week for a wedding so time at a computer was spotty at best.
