First Post - Follow Up on the Lost Porsche
-
Greetings to the Hyphen.
Here's an experimental first post, and a follow up on my search for a color code for my grandparents' 356A.
https://oppositelock.kinja.com/a-parting-gift-and-one-last-plea-for-help-i-know-oppo-1845647938
My grandmother thinks she may have tracked down some paperwork over the weekend related to the import of the car - they shipped it back home to Oregon in 1963 or 1964 (there's some confusion on this). I'm hoping there will be a chassis code or a VIN buried in there. We'll see.
We've definitely landed on Aquamarine Blue Metallic on the color, 5607.
I'll keep a steady drip of info on this super cool car as it comes in. I'm planning to write something big about it, too.
Here's a Tatra found in the same trove of slides.
-
Cool shots and welcome!
-
@classicdatsundebate Thanks! I'm over the moon with this group of slides - there are hundreds of them - and not just the ones with the Porsche, it's an amazing documentary of Europe at a pretty interesting time in history. They owned a "submarine hatch" VW Westfalia for a while, too, after they sold the Porsche.
-
Looking forward to seeing more of them.
-
@mtdrift Oh wow, considering they are one of my dream cars and were rare to begin with even in their own time, seeing an old Tatra just 'in a picture' (as stupid as that sounds) just feels......weird, haha! Awesome stuff, will be following this!
-
@rallydarkstrike Yeah, clearly my grandfather was intentionally trying to photograph the Tatra (he was a car nut, after all). Which is saying something because he obviously was just shooting from the hip here as it drove by, and he wouldn't have known if he captured it or not until he developed the (very expensive) color film later on. I think this was taken in Sarajevo in 1957, but we're trying to confirm that.

He was an Oppo before his time
-
He would have been down in the shit on Oppo for sure.
-
@mtdrift Damn, that’s perfect. That car in parts is easily worth $300k these days.
-
Its fate will make you cry - more on that in later posts...
-
I'm glad you got that figured out, as I thought it definitely looked more Aquamarine.
-
@mtdrift I'm already clenching my buttocks.
-
I hope @Stef-Schrader Is seeing these pictures because, damn, nice Parshë.
-
