Poorsh 944 experts…where ya at?

Thinking about getting into the P car game on the less expensive side with a 944. I’d love a 981 Cayman S but those are a bit more than I want to spend right now.
I know the sellers and it seems like a good deal. They’re asking $14k OBO
Anything I need to check out on something like this?
-
@mhr555 I'm a bit too far out of the P-car game myself to have specific recommendations, but this looks like not a bad way to get into the P-car world. Were you in New Mexico or Colorado, I could point you to some folks that could give you a well-informed opinion.

@mhr555 Where's @K-Roll-PorscheTamer ?
-
I remember when NICE 944 turbos were 6 grand.
-
@EssExTee here I come to do my Porsche thing.
First off, if we're talking about the car above, the front end is sus. Could be a Turbo fascia swap, but '89 was also the first year of the S2 which came with the same front end. Otherwise, a properly rebuilt Broadfoot 2.7L sounds like a fun time for the right price. And this car has the stickies and stopping power to make for a fun daily driver. If it's as well sorted as the description reads, it'll be a "Deutschland 86" of sorts. Just be mindful of the maintenance/running costs for a 944 of its age and you should be fine.
-
@derp heck, I remember when nice and ready to drive home 944 NAs were $3k
-
@K-Roll-PorscheTamer Yes, $3k, all day long always a few for sale, seemed like it was that way from the mid to late nineties when they bottomed out on depreciation until just a few years ago when they started creeping up. The 14k for an NA still seems like a lot for a well sorted car, even in this market. Prices are all over the map for these, bargains still around if you look.
-
@glemon I bought mine in 2014 for $3200 and I've seen cars in similar condition going for $5.5-7k in the last couple of years. I never realized they'd hit a depreciation plateau and held it for that long! The bargains are definitely out there if one casts a wide net and is patient.
-
@mhr555 Make sure you understand the timing belt change requirements and expense.
Basically, the job is expensive or a PITA, and repeats frequently.
The job is known as FOES, front of engine service, because everything comes off. The timing belt is buried -
@mhr555 these cars are pretty well made, with the exception of the frequent timing belt services. If this one has been redone, sure. Just keep that in mind and budget for it.
-
@mhr555 even for a well sorted Car, 14k is a lot for a NA. I was reallllll close to buying one of these like a year ago.
-
@K-Roll-PorscheTamer not a very well done fascia swap. The Turbo / S2 had a slightly altered fender to fit the different fascia. This one looks like it has been grafted onto the standard fender
How S2/ Turbo should look
-
@Britishvillaininatl good eye!!
-
$14K is TOOOOOOO much, even with that list of recent work done. It kinda sounds like the owner wants the money he spent on money and repairs back.
Hell, I'd go for $7K for a decent-driving NA. Maybe. That still feels like a lot, but I know things are nuts now.
-
@mhr555 $14k ..........
-
@Stef-Schrader I totally forgot you're on Oppo.
Yeah, I think it's bit much for what it is even if it's well sorted. He's most certainly trying to get the most out of the recent service.

And here’s the point in the mykr scheming process where he pivots to a parallel scheme…
1962 Ranchero Straight 6 3 speed automatic California car $6,600.
