This doesn’t look too bad.

It’s kind of funny to have the name hyphenated, but I could get used to it.
-
@chariotoflove That will likely be fixed in the next couple days, I don't own the oppositelock.com domain, so I bought the hyphenated one when I started this. Talks with mods ongoing about the future.
-
Simple interface AND the ability to direct chat someone? Plus no irritating sidebar with stuff I don’t care about? That’s a win/win/win. Nice work!
-
@mocamino Thanks! It's been a group effort so far so please share any feedback.
-
Yay for more positive comments!
@mocamino Yup, post any comments, concerns or the like that you have in the 'MASTER FEEDBACK' thread!
-
This really is so cool. So far it looks like a nicer newer home for Oppo
-
Not sure what role the mods are taking. Are they somehow in a position to coordinate this transition? I didn’t think they were in such a position of leadership.
-
I think, as Jminer mentioned, that the domain is a temp.
-
@chariotoflove I'm torn on this point. Officially they've got no role other than owning the oppositelock.com domain. I'm a bit jaded too as they seemed so absent from our apocalypse so far, leaving is all panicking and searching for a home.
At the same time they've done a solid job sheparding our community over the years (some more than others).
-
@jminer I think there is only one owner, and that is Brian, The Life of? The mod group is pretty large, and the job, I thought, just included keeping things from being too wild and wooly in discussions. Of course, some people are able and willing to do more than that during the transition, but not everyone should be shoehorned into a leadership role. Also, we have a lot of listed mods who aren't active or hardly active anymore.
I guess what I'm thinking is that our new site should start out with a fresh slate of moderators, which will consist of some of our current roster. Also, on other forums with which I am somewhat familiar, I don't think administrator and moderator are the same thing. I think it's pretty clear, for instance, that you and perhaps Rally are currently the admins of this site, but you may not want to be moderators of discussions. Conversely, there are folks who would make good moderators that are not really qualified to be admins. Does that make sense?
-
@Chariotoflove That all makes perfect sense. I think the prevailing thought amongst both oppos and mods is what you're saying. Some want to join us, some don't and we'll definitely add new mods as well to this platform. Hell we still haven't developed any rules as of yet, probably will mostly lift oppo's don't be a dick rule though.
Right now I'm the only admin, there are a couple of mods at the moment other than me MM54, RallyDarkStrike, HFFP and Stef. Those ranks will both expand if we decide to stay here. Community is already bigger than I expected this soon (134 users) but if we don't hit a critical mass not sure if we'll stay.
-
@jminer What do you consider critical mass?
-
@jminer Thats already 26% of the population on Drivetribe-oppo within the last 48hrs? With the bugs worked out and fine tuning of the ui there shouldn't be hard attracting a solid chunk of anyone who is looking to stay with the community.
-
@Chariotoflove @sony1492 I honestly don’t know what that number is and I don’t think we’ll know until after the OPPO Kinja goes read only. That’ll force everyone out onto one platform or another. I didn’t want to split the community with this, but it’s feeling like we have hardcore folks on both DT and here.
It also depends if the mods throw their support behind one platform or another I think.
We can’t drive the traffic in views here that DT can provide, but that’s never what I’ve been here for. Meaningful connection with folks I consider friends is why I’m here.
-
The way it is looking right now, I plan to drop stuff on both DT and here. New Oppo has more general activity, and people seem to be treating it more like the old Oppo FP, where we had both long posts and fur faces. Over on DT, it only seems to have longer posts.
Which is funny, because when Kinja first launched and everything was shiny and new and every post had a big picture, it encouraged people to write better content. As the quality of the Kinja experience diminished, the desire to post high quality stuff went with it.
That's not to say that every post is now a shit post. I just don't see why people feel it has to be all or none. Still, I remain concerned about getting new blood to the site.
-
Well, I cast my vote for this option over at the old place, based largely on the fact that this works very well, and speed is of the essence. I see no reason not to pull the trigger now.
-

Would be nice if there's a live chat too, DT has that.
-
@chariotoflove I often wonder if we should have mod elections or term limits? i have no idea
-
Elections aren’t a bad idea, actually.
