@chariotoflove had a friend that worked for BMW USA a few years ago, he mentioned that Kia poached a lot of their designers and engineers, so it's possible that there's a lot of similar influences in it.

They did, and this design is not outright ripping off of BMW, of course. But there are a lot of places where you can tel they were benchmarking BMW in feel. It's even more apparent to me when the doc in my garage with the contemporary 7 series parks across from me. A functional example is that the infotainment system is not set up like the touch-based systems in the rest of the Kia line. It's a dial-based menu system that looks much more like iDrive.
