Australian Craziness

This whole story is wild.

A man with "bird" in his surname, finds an American pigeon in his backyard in Australia. Turns out it's a... race.... pigeon. That left from Oregon and is owned by a guy in Alabama. And because Australia is a country of monsters they will humanely destroy the bird lol
I completely understand and am joking about Australia but the story is still legendary.

@poor_sh Give 'im the boot!
-
To invert the story, I discovered a cockatiel in my yard many years ago.
Fairly confident it didn't fly there from Australia, however.
(It promptly died, but I did not humanely destroy it out of quarantine concerns.)
-
@ibrad Oh, man, all-time favorite Simpsons moment.
-
@poor_sh "The only possible outcome to manage the biosecurity risk is humane destruction of the bird."
-
@poor_sh well it could be contagious. after all, it’s pretty clear the bird flew.
-
Good luck catching one specific pigeon... those fuckers are quick
-
@qaaaaa lol yup especially a race pigeon

Quick, but not quicker than birdshot!
-
@ibrad Yeah but they don't have guns there
-
@qaaaaa Sure they do. How do you figure?
-
@ibrad they do, but is that a humane way to destroy the bird?

I hate you lol
-
@poor_sh I think so, but that is my opinion and I am not a veterinarian.
Definitely more humane than the boot!
-
@ibrad Mostly a joke since they've got pretty strict gun laws, game wardens definitely still have them though.

@poor_sh last I heard is that the leg ring is a fake and the pigeon is safe. Given it's feral I'd have shot it anyway...
