If you want something done right, be indecisive for a year and your spouse will do it for you

I know I'm not the only running enthusiast on Oppo, but we do seem outnumbered by our two-wheel active brethren.
Anyway, I wanted a way to display the trinkets from races, and my wife bought me a nice looking medal rack last Christmas (2019). The challenge was we couldn't agree on where to put it. I wanted it in the main living area somewhere, but could never decide where.
So last weekend while I was out tinkering on the Suburban, she went ahead and mounted it right next to the fridge. (Our main living area is one big room - living all the way to informal eating and the kitchen.) So technically it is in the breakfast nook, but I'm really happy to have it up.
I decided to only hang one medal on each hook for now, so I chose some of the more interesting ones and races where I actually placed.
Far left you can see the Run Disney ones - Wine and Dine 2017 and the Dark Side Challenge 2017. The alligator ones from the Brazos Bend trail races are up there as well, along with the last race before the pandemic shut everything down - my 2nd place (age group) in the Choco Loco 10k.
I'm looking at ways to tape up race bibs as well, maybe just using painters tape above the rack.
More than anything (related to running), I'm looking forward to getting back to races. When I train I run alone, but even though I'm not the fastest getting out in a race still gets a bit of adrenaline going and I like to see how hard I can push myself. Hopefully by the fall (summer races suck because Houston).

@houstonrunner My younger brother and his wife are advid runners, more so his wife. She has done several marathons. A few years ago, they ran at Disney World. He did the 1/2 marathon. She did the 1/2 and full marathon, thereby receiving the Goofy medal, which is very appropriate.

I feel like that's a warning to your guests.

@dealkillerpoweredbyfocus I haven't done a marathon, lots of 10ks and halfs. I really need to do one, if only so I can say I've done it.
The "challenges" on the Run Disney races are neat, but not if you want to enjoy the parks as well. Both times I've done the 10k/half challenge my legs have been too tired to fully enjoy the parks.

@houstonrunner That's a lot of medals, I've not really done many races, only a couple Tough Mudders which you don't get a medal just a t shirt and headband so can't do a proper display like yours
-
@samv8 Oh, I've got the shirts as well. Some of them are great, and there are quite a few that are just "meh". For me the medals help keep the motivation going.
(Forgot to mention there is a literal size 11.5 shoe box full of medals I didn't hang up.)
I've seen a few creative displays of race shirts as well - like a quilt type hanging on a wall.

@houstonrunner that’s pretty impressive. I don’t race, but I ride alone, and I understand about pushing yourself. My only trophies are times in my riding log.

@chariotoflove PR's are a good motivation as well! I'm been able to push myself to PR's in some really good race conditions. The Cypress Half Marathon (usually in late Oct / Nov) here in Houston has been good for me - 2019 was low 50's, no wind, slightly overcast so the temperature stayed pretty constant. Great supportive crowd as well.
Always fun to see kids out there supporting the race with my all time favorite sign "Run Faster! I just farted!"
-
@houstonrunner ha!
I do get kids pointing at me on my hand cycle and saying “oh cool bike!” a lot. That’s fun.

How do you go about training in the summer? I'm up in DFW and am trying to plan ahead a little.
I'm looking at either having to do laps on an 1/11th mile indoor track, or wake up at 4am. And I know there's no way ill wake up at 4am.
But also not sure how ill do speedwork on the track when the turns are so sharp that it quickly feels like it'll cause blisters from sideways movent. -
