No more FWD Ridgeline. From next month on, it's AWD only
-
Check out the story here
That also means the base price went up $2500
-
@dogisbadob That's kind of a shame, since it wasn't exactly cheap to start with. Wonder what the take rate was on the FWD?
-
@ranwhenparked Most Honda dealers in the northeast refuse to even stock FWD versions of AWD-available Hondas, and elsewhere the take rate was probably low anyway
-
Good, can't imagine that there was much of a take rate for the fwd version anyway. Sad to see that the base price went up, even if equipment-for-equipment they're only a few hundred apart, but it raises the barrier to entry nonetheless

I bet it was miniscule.
-
@dogisbadob
I thought they went AWD only with the second gen. Oops. Hopefully the cost savings of simplifying production lowers the uplift in price some. -

That's fine. A FWD Ridgeline is quite silly.

I had an 09 and it was really the perfect truck for my needs. I recently test drove a couple trucks and drove a 14 Ridgeline while it was exactly as I remember it brought to mind the small stuff like auto headlights, push button start, small convenience things that are now standard. They also had a 19 Ridgeline so of course I had to take it for a spin. It is REALLY good, the engine/transmission/driveline is much more refined and of course all the small things my 09 lacked, the 19 had (individual adjustable arm rest are awesome). This redesign has me intrigued.

@shop-teacher For an unscientific experiment, I looked to see what was listed for sale on AutoTrader.
New listings for 2020 FWD models were 5 out of 3,699 total listings.
Current listings for used 2019 FWD models was 118 out of 609 total listings.
-
@dogisbadob Here in Southtown USA, FWD was probably common. At least for crossovers, it’s nearly impossible to get one with AWD.

I bet there is a higher percentage of people regretting their decision to buy a Ridgeline, when it's front wheel drive. I'm definitely not a "trucks must be four wheel drive" guy, as evidenced by the fact that I have been driving rear wheel drive trucks through Chicago winters for 20 years, but I think a front wheel drive vehicle that big would be absolutely miserable.
Honestly, if I didn't want a bigger camper, a Ridgeline would be on the list to replace my Sierra someday, but it would have to be all wheel drive.
-
@dogisbadob the AWD works pretty well, this thing with only front wheel drive would constantly be spinning the tires.

I don't know, it seems like most moderately optioned cars with AWD available here in the southeast are just FWD.
-
@dogisbadob “Southtown USA” is actually Mar-a-Lago. Notice the lack of front plates on cars I’ve posted?
You probably saw my commercial. I stay in good touch with my brother. During these colder times, I prefer to cruise in an Alltrack, though.
-
If I didn't like the f150 so much I'd probably be in a new Ridgeline. Or Passport.
