Sim Racing Lap Time Challenge 2 RESULTS and Challenge 3 Start
-
Hola everyone! Last night finished Challenge 2 and we had 10 submissions! I think, if I missed you sorry please tell me. See the results below.
So... I'm thinking it's not just me being a whiny baby, this might be the first significant evidence of a track difference or maybe tire grip difference for Project Cars 2 because @JMonte_II and I just could not get down to everyone else. We were 5th and 7th out of 9 in challenge 1 but hey, maybe we're just slow! Very likely
Hope you guys are still having fun, but that GT86 was brutal especially when you can get over 2 minutes into a fast lap and completely ruin it. Not that Spa is much easier but at least we'll be FLYING through with a nice Porsche.
CHALLENGE 3 START 1/14/21 UNTIL 1/27/21
Track: Spa
Car: 911 GT3R or RSR which I believe are roughly the same spec. We might have multiple groups here though if there are differences. According to Thomas Donohue the Forza 7 car seems very close. My initial setup in PC2:
- GT3R
- 500 HP
- 2744 LBS
- Soft Slick Tires (Please try to match Soft Slick tires. I'm not sure anything is better anyway.)
So let's GOOOOOO!
-
@poor_sh Sorry I missed the first 2 because of poor timing, but I will try to participate in this one!
-
@civicwagonengineer hooray!
-
I did a little better than the GT86+Bathurst result listed for me later on in that challenge. It probalby just got lost in the shuffle of multiple comment threads. Link: https://opposite-lock.com/topic/5111/sim-racing-lap-time-challenge-2-3-days-left/7?_=1610657543468
I have a long-running love/hate relationship going on with both Spa and 911s in racing games, so this one should be interesting
-
@t0ast dammit, figured that would happen. I'll update when I have a chance!
-
This looks fun, I'm in. I've been playing Snow Runner a ton lately so Forza 7 will feel like driving in warp speed.
-
@mustangchris66 i keep relaxing with wreckfest, then sim racing is crazy. In reverse I feel like i can't control any of the cars lol
-
@poor_sh Need to get in on this!
-
@davesaddiction you do!
-
@poor_sh I think I might have gotten Project Cars 2 for free through PS Plus at some point... I don't have much time to play in recent years, but I do miss it!
-
@poor_sh just a thought, maybe we can do multiple cars as a side challenge or once in a while? Like Merica vs Germany and you can chose either a Vette or a M3 (or do laps with both?)
-
@italianjobr53 it's already a bit difficult to make sure everyone has access to the right car so i don't really want to add that to the official challenge. But given the limited number of tasks we'll come back to these with different cars.
-
@poor_sh sounds like fun! all those big wide fast corners should be well suited to a quick downforcy rear-engined rear-drive car.

That is interesting, possibly the game is just more realistic and therefore more difficult, or maybe it's easier if you have a wheel. it would be interesting to compare the same car and track across a whole slew of games of different decades and consoles and see how the times end up.
-
@nauraushaun we're on the same wheel. And our first challenge times were similar to everyone. I think it might be the GT86 tires or something specific to that car. Can someone run the Challenge 3 Porsche at bathurst and tell me what you get?
-
@poor_sh Oh dear, might have to give this round a miss. Spa isn't unlocked yet either in GT Sport, and games older than a couple of years don't have Porsches in them
-
@poor_sh So, can I try this in a variety of games, then just post up my best time for whichever game? Or maybe I should post up from each game to get a better comparison?
-
@smugaardvark sure as long as you try to match the vehicle setup
-
@nauraushaun buy project cars 2? Lol or asetto corsa i guess.
-
@poor_sh Of course. It's all for fun, so no point in trying to cheat to win.
-
@smugaardvark right but also it makes the comparison valid lol like we just saw the best tires on the gt86 in pc2 ARE GARBAGE
-
@poor_sh I haven't spent too much time in PC2, but in PC3, I feel like the GT86 is sort of...bad. At least compared to Forza, where it feels quite balanced.
-
@smugaardvark it is. I'm not happy with myself for going with that one haha it was brutal

@poor_sh Here's my Porsche run at Bathurst in GT Sport.
2017 Porsche 911 RSR (991)
499 HP
2,740 lbs.
Racing Soft tires
Stock settings, no traction control or other aids except for ABS.I clocked a 2:05.678 on my third lap. Could have gotten down into the 2:04.X range with a really clean lap.

Aero tuned to the minimum to decrease drag.I ran a 2:22.316 on lap 9. Could have gotten down to the 2:21.X range on a clean lap.
Oh, and I took a photo
