@jb-boin to take Lada international, they need RHD!
-
@pip-bip as it will be based on the CMF platform i don't think it will be an issue.
-
@jb-boin fingers crossed then

I've heard a Lada nonsense in my life but Dacia good one.
-
I wish Dacia was over here....cheap, simple cars are my kind of brand....
-
@rallydarkstrike closer to you than you realize. go to St Pierre et Miquelon
-
@pip-bip True! But they'd have nothing old enough there I could import
That new R5-based Renault EV is pretty cool....not liking the giant 'RENAULT' across the front, but otherwise cool! I wonder what range and charge times will be like...
-
@rallydarkstrike first gen cars are now old enough for you, being first built in 2004.
-
@rallydarkstrike it's only a concept at the moment but if it's like the Twin'run concept from 2013 that prefigured the Twingo 3 it could be quite close.
The Twin'run concept :
And the production Twingo 3 GT :
-
@jb-boin Yup, that's what I was thinking of....they'd likely keep it very similar for production as they did some of their other recent concepts! I do quite like the current Twingo....how are they? Decently reliable?

There are dozens of you who would buy one. And then sales would be nearly zero after a few years of production.
Case in point... Fiat sales in North America

I'm intrigued and I'll probably like it, at least from this side of the pond. I hope it's true to the original.
A Dacia SUV concept called Bigster at 1:28:14
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha, BIGSTER, hahahahaha
-
@manwich Dacia is making economic cars in multiple size and shapes while models sold by FIAT in North America are small retro-chic models that are not a big market in the US where small cars are usually only bought if very cheap.
In 2019 Dacia sold almost as much cars as FIAT in Europe and while FIAT has been on a downward trend for a long time, Dacia is going the other way.
The cheapest Dacia : The Sandero, starts at 8690β¬ (including 20% VAT) in France and is a brand new model based on the current Clio, there is no direct FIAT competitor in term of size (similar to a Fiesta) so i can't do a direct comparison here.
The cheapest FIAT : The Panda, starts at 11990β¬ and is about the same size as a 500.
A direct comparison of the Dacia Duster and the FIAT 500X (both are about the same size and have a CUV look) on the French market (both including taxes) :
- The Dacia starts at 12490β¬ with a 1.0T 100hp that works both with petrol or LPG (sensibly cheaper around here and less polluting) with a 6 speed manual
- The FIAT starts at 22090β¬ with also a 1.0T 120hp (only petrol) with a 6 speed manual
Yes, the FIAT is better equipped on this entry trim but it's almost twice the price.

I haven't heard bad things about them, seems like most big issues have been fixed via recalls.
The new electric version seems to be quite nice for a cheap EV city car :
-
@jb-boin That 5 protoype looks amazing. I'm not sure I'm ready for an electric car though, largely due to lack of infrastructure here in Australia. If they do an ICE or hybrid version, that would be sweet. Maybe the Alpine hot hatch will be based on it.
-
@streetsofperth it's evolving quite fast around here so i think that you are just slower to start but it will be a thing in not too long.
The advantage of smaller and lighter EVs is that they have smaller batteries and need less recharging time and can be recharged fast enough on non-fast charging stations to be used as a commuter, the Twingo can be recharged from 0% to 100% on a basic domestic plug in 13 hours to around 1 hours for 0% to 80% with the fastest wall-box available.
-
@jb-boin Cool! 190km is pretty small for range though
-
@streetsofperth Yeah, lack of infrastructure is a huge issue here in Canada too...at least here in Nova Scotia...
-
@rallydarkstrike i almost never have to do a 190/2km trip and most of the time i don't even happen to take one of my cars to do so, so i could use one of those for 99% of my needs.
But yes, it's not an exceptional value but it makes the car cheap for an electric at 21kβ¬ including taxes (and before any governmental help), the ZoΓ© (best selling EV in Europe last year) starts at 32kβ¬.
-
@jb-boin We are seeing some infrastructure popping up, but not much. We also have a very conservative federal government who are doing nothing to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles, while some states are introducing electric vehicle taxes in lieu of fuel excise. Diesel utes are among the most popular cars sold here, which will tell you a lot, and there are still concerns about range owing to the significant distances between towns and cities. I'd like to purchase an electric car, but at the moment it's not realistic. Hopefully that will change in time.
