Subaru is re-Outbacktifying the Outback to make it more Outbacktificated

Subaru has a new Wilderness Edition trim in the works for the Outback, Forester & Crosstrek. Think of it as a factory version of rally or A/T type Subaru builds, with even-more-lifted suspension and A/T tires. So if Outbacktifying a car is the act of taking a car, jacking up the suspension, and giving it truckier tires, is an Outbacktified Outback a double Outback, or an Outback squared? Inquiring minds need to know! All I do know is, that's a lot of ground clearance.

@texturedsoyprotein I totally support Subaru doing this. WITH the exception they are going to actually solve one of the biggest issues with their vehicles used in this way - the transmission. The TR-580 and 680 CVT's are WOEFULLY inadequate for off-road use, having too little cooling for the belt and coupler (in the same oil bath) as well as far too little torque than can be used in stall. It's a terrible design for a vehicle with off-road pretensions.

Short term they need to add an external oil cooler, but what they need is an 8-speed planetary transmission that can do the job properly.

@texturedsoyprotein I know it seems silly but there's so much aftermarket for Subarus that do this that Subaru would be crazy not to cash in. The Subaru dealership by me sells lifted Crosstreks and Outbacks with beefier tires already.
