Sim Racing Lap Time Challenge 2 (7ish hours left)

Hey All, please see tags for last posts now.

As title says, about 7 hours left for challenge 2, then tomorrow I will post results and the next challenge which we already mostly know.

So far I believe I have 8 participants which is pretty good and shows we should keep going. I know I'm having fun, but screw all of you and your low 2minute 40 times on Bathurst!

I just want to throw out another mention, and an updating post will come soon, but we're doing the 24 Laps of Daytona on Project Cars 2 on PS4 sometime near to the 24 Hours of Daytona. I at least will be streaming on youtube if I can get it to work well, and I can probably get @JMonte_II as well so if you're not participating you can certainly watch if you're free and REALLY BORED. It's going to be multi-class so we'll all have a fight on our hands regardless of skill I hope. I'll be in the walls mostly.

I did a few laps, though I never really got comfortable on Bathurst. Also, I think I could shave a few seconds off if I could get used to the "manual" transmission controls.

(2:45.388 in Forza 6, and I forgot to get vehicle specs).

@poor_sh If it makes you feel any better, I know I'm doing it all wrong... I clipped the wall on the same corner for every single lap.

Plus, the fastest laps I got were when I got all sideways on the downhill.

Yeah... I'm not good on Bathurst.

Oh I can't wait. @JMonte_II and I did a test run yesterday which was a lot of fun but I can't figure out how to manage a pit stop that's fair with the AI, they seem to get out so much faster even if we're only doing a splash and dash. I'm thinking about not having a mandated stop to avoid that issue.

@st80mnd the slicks last 24 laps so no need really yet but I don't think we can actually do 24 laps of spa, le mans, or nurburgring lol so we might modify those races

@poor_sh I done 100 laps of Nurburgring before. That is a pain in the ass.

@cobrajoe I'm using FM7 (not sure if the specs changed from 6) but the base car should be D368. Toast is running the same, he's down to a 2:41 something.

@thomas-donohue I changed the tires to slicks, because the original post said best tires available. Otherwise, it's completely stock, bought it just before turning laps.

But if everyone else was using stock tires, feel free to strike my time. There's no way I'd get anywhere near that time with less grip.

@cobrajoe yeah, since our times were already lower than everyone else, I left it stock this time. It's not easy to get a clean lap.....too many walls!!!! I'll try a few more laps tonight but I'm almost 2 seconds behind him.

@thomas-donohue Definitely too many walls! (And tires, I scattered a tire wall early in my laps).

I'll never pretend to be a skilled sim driver, but tracks with long straights followed by sharp corners are always difficult for me.

i've legitimately never played GT Sport and I'm not sure what it lets you do just off the bat. but i'll try and get a few laps in in an hour or two

@cobrajoe no need to strike, all for fun. The best tires available in project cars 2 is the stock pirelli hard tires. Guess that might explain the lower times everyone else is getting if my tires are just way worse.

I just did like 40 laps and i could maybe do 2:48.0 but this is all I got in me.

@marquettela I have GT sport and will join you any time, but we have to do the 24 laps of Daytona on project cars 2 since that track isn't in GT sport

@poor_sh I think specifying the preferred tire is a good idea for next time. I could have used Racing Super Soft tires instead of Sport Hards in GT Sport, which would have given me absurd levels of grip but obviously those are not comparable to the stock Pirellis you were using.

@poor_sh Well, you said “best available tires” which clearly isn’t going to be the same across games. Providing as much info to normalize the conditions across games will help improve the competition, which I’ve been enjoying!

@marquettela crap, I was vague. I said "as close to stock, best tires available" but meant best as closest to stock because the games have different stock setups. I'll clarify in the next one!
