I hate selling cars

I cleaned the Mazda and took some pictures. That's one step done, maybe I'll list in in a month or 2. After I clean the interior and take more pictures.
-
Why are you selling it?
-
@alfalfa I thought that was a bra on it at first.
-
@alfalfa I took a different approach and just let it sit beside my garage for a year and a half before I answered a want-ad and sold it as is. The guy did ask for a video of the underside though so I ended up having to put some effort into it in the end but not bad.
Definitely worth spending a day cleaning it up though if you want top dollar!
-
@alfalfa Hey man, I'll give you 1/4 of your asking price, plus some pocket lint. Can you be home Saturday between 8am and 11pm so I can pretend to be interested in looking at it, and then not show up?
-
@alfalfa so clean!
-
@ranwhenparked didn't know my PTSD could trigger from an Oppo comment...
-
@alfalfa I have to sell a motorcycle this spring (or this late winter or whatever) and I am NOT looking forward to it.
Hoping I can sell it through networking before I have to actually go and list it.
-
@derpwagon I daily the Xterra now, the Mazda just isn't worth the insurance and driveway space (it's only one car width). If I want an occasional vehicle for fun I can do better.
-
@alfalfa I feel your pain. I've got my sons car listed for the last 2 weeks on Cargurus and FB marketplace. I refuse to drop down to craigslist due to more scams than I can deal with. I set up a separate gmail account and a prepaid (burner) Total Wireless 30-day phone so once it's sold I can delist it and walk away. Only tip I have is to start at least 10% maybe 20% higher than your bottom price, after a week drop your listed price by half the distance to your bottom price and expect people to show up with half whatever you asked for... I usually keep my cars until there's not much value left, so I don't expect to make a bunch of $$ but I do keep them in good condition and go the extra mile to clean and detail them before I sell them, so I refuse to put a "scrap value" price on them just to get rid of them. It's hard to believe the independent used car lots can stay in business, buying 10-15 year old cars at auction, fixing/hiding any obvious flaws (CEL, flat tire), listing them for 60-180 days and selling them for 30-50% profit, but that's what it looks like here. Even if their overhead is low, that's a lot of cash tied up in cars on the lot.

You can get phone numbers with Google Voice and have calls to them forward to your real phone. Can delete the number after you're done. Free. They never know your real phone number.

@alfalfa ah. Well, I suppose that makes sense.
