Things that make Porschephiles very angry for 800, Alex

This 912 has a Subaru EJ STI Type C 2.0l boxer with a custom intercooler and Porsche 5 speed. Built in the owners garage by him and his brother. The Mini was well cared for as well. Spotted in Newport Beach, CA.

@veearrrsix Sounds like a sweet build, though!
-
@veearrrsix I don't hate that at all, it kicks ass. Pretty well known car. Porschephiles that are upset by people doing stuff with the cars are dickheads.
-
@rallywrench most purists, regardless of the car in question, are dickheads.
-
@veearrrsix I'm a fan of that 912, but I'll take the mini instead. I don't think the 912 is nearly as coveted by the purists.
-
@veearrrsix I had one of those spec C motors in my bugeye WRX back in the day, along with the STi 6MT. Great motor.
If it's a V7, it's got the big port heads. Those engines were factory forged, and wound out to 8250RPM. I think fuel cut was at 8500. Though, with the small VF turbo, it was out of breath by 7k. Bolt on a 30r, or modern equivalent gee-wiz turbo, and they're fantastic. -
@veearrrsix I'm okay with this, but if you LS swap a Datsun 240Z I'm gonna come after you.
-
@ed That 912 weighs less than 2200 lbs and has almost 300 HP from what the owner said. I'll take that all dey, e'redey
-
-
@tripper it definitely isn't. Plus the financial barriers are far less. I think that's why this 912 exists in its current form to be honest. A 911 with a six of this year is worth too much to mess with IMHO.

Yeah, personally I'm a stick with the same manufacturer with engine swaps. Except a few cars. I like the Subaru/Porsche swaps and LS/Wankel swaps.
-
@highlander I'd rather they LS swap a Z vs. E-crate one or whatever.
-
I approve. It's an improvement making the car much better to drive, most likely. It might be less valuable, but a better car.
-
@just-a-scratch just the power to weight ratio alone is bonkers.
