Jeep thoughts along with Arkansas and Oklahoma thoughts.
-
As y’all know, I drove 12-13 hours from my house in western Kentucky today to Oklahoma City to take my wife, her little sister (age 14) and her little brother (age 17 - but can’t drive due to vision problems) to see his friend.
Sister convinced me to rent a Jeep from Enterprise and I conceded since my work discount makes things super cheap there.
Thoughts on Jeep:
- 4-cylinder is pretty peppy. Not dog slow like the Compasses and Patriots I’ve experienced.
- Wind noise is atrocious but that’s to be expected.
- Water leaks during heavy rain were also to be expected but amusing nonetheless.
- CarPlay is great and I was glad to have it.
- I missed having my blind spot monitors but the Jeep’s relative lack of pillars made up for it.
- THE HEADLIGHTS. Oh my God. So bad. Jolene has better headlights. I couldn’t see shit once it got dark.
Thoughts on Arkansas and Oklahoma:
- I find it funny that all of the speed limit signs say “NO TOLERANCE” under them but everyone still ignores them. Seriously. People blew past me going 20-30 over the limit all day and the very few state troopers we saw didn’t seem to care.
- I really wish Kentucky interstates had their speed limits at 75 instead of 70 like these states.
- The casinos popping up out of nowhere amused me. Cow field, cow field, cow field, CASINO.
- 10:00 P.M. and dark and still 96°? Ew.
-
@Mazda616 95 after dark? Corn sweats
-
Yeah the dark and still over 90 is pretty normal. The casino that always make me chuckle is the one just on the OK side of Siloam Springs. Same city that spans the border and as soon as you cross into OK it’s there.
You’ll find that we have lots of casinos and weed dispensary’s here. Go get a margarita and the brisket nachos at Fuzzy’s in Bricktown.

@Mazda616 The LED lights make a huge difference. I absolutely made sure to add that to my factory order.
Have you tried turning on the fog lights?
-
@Mazda616 That all sounds about right.

Yeah, they were already on. I turned them off just out of curiosity and it was even worse. 🤪

@Mazda616 welcome to my neck of the woods! Yes it is very hot here right now. Welcome to hell.
Wrangler seems like an interesting choice for road trip vehicle... But I guess you knew that going in haha.

I find it offensive that this 4,500lbs brick gets 25% better fuel economy than my little Japanese sedan.
I’m pretty sure Jeep only offers those halogen headlamps for the same reason as they make A/C optional, to claim a cheaper starting MSRP. They are abysmal, as bad as the 30 year old lumps of glass on the wife’s Cherokee. I’m honestly surprised that they are even legal.

The closest turnpike to me is 80 mph (runs from Tulsa to Muskogee).

I was shocked at how bad they were. I’m not exaggerating when I say that Jolene the Sunbird has better headlights. I was reminded of my night driving my old beater POS ‘95 Chevy S-10 when I was in this Wrangler. It was downright dangerous.

It was amusing to me that the speed limit was 80 and everyone cruised at 90+. Fuel economy be damned.

My Tacoma suuucks at 85. LOL
