Toyota Stripes
-
The world needs more striped/multi-color paint jobs on vehicles. Back in the day Toyota had it down, but someone needs to try to top them.
I can't think of a better, cheaper way to give a little excitement to an otherwise boring and/or utilitarian vehicle.

@6mt_ftw I LOVE stripes on vehicles. Toyota has some amazing examples of stripes done properly.

That truck does not belong in the city. I am prepared to give it the home it deserves.

@6mt_ftw AMC did stripes on many of their vehicles. They did side graphics more than most American makes. There weren't the multicolor stripes of Toyota, but at least they added character.

I've debated trying something like these on my 5th gen.

This thread makes me so happy. I love toyota graphics & stripes! The red/orange/yellow that was used in IMSA with Dan Gurney's AAR or with Ivan Stewart's trucks is iconic.

Oooo retro-stripes!!! You're right, Toyota dominated the stripe game in the 80's/90's, with few exceptions.
As simple as it is, I adore this stripe fro the XJ 'Sport' Cherokee. When we re-paint my wife's car I want to get it done on her's, assuming I can find them for sale.

@6mt_ftw I'm looking at some of these (the teal one in particular) and asking myself if 1.) they really came out the factory with those paint jobs and 2.) why the hell we stopped. These are amazing, but I guess they're too "retro" for new car buyers... piss...

@6mt_ftw Retro graphics thread?

@taylor-martin Too Retro? The stripes/graphics seem mild in comparison to so many vehicles that are styled to be full-on retro: Mustang, Camaro, Challenger/Charger, PT Cruiser, SSR, 92% of the whole Jeep lineup, etc. The manufacturers didn't have any problem making the sheet metal look like the past so they shouldn't have any problem doing matching graphics. I will give Dodge/Stellantis/FCA, XYZ props for bringing back some of the cool graphics from the muscle car glory days. I personally wouldn't drive any of those vehicles, not because of the graphics but because the cars themselves are not in markets I'm interested in, but I'm happy that they're out there.
What we really need is that stuff on common vehicles, preferably on the most boring, cheap stuff in their lineups. The Dodge Journey has been around since at least the last ice age and probably isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so throw some splashy stickers on it to make people think that they're driving something interesting. It's not like the vehicle is going to be around for collectors in 25 years; after a few rounds at BHPH lots they'll end up in the pick 'n pull lots like most of Mitsubishi's production in the last decade...

@onlytwowheels YES!

Jeep had so many colorful stripes. This was just some for the Renegade package, there were more for Scrambler, Laredo, Honcho etc.
The AMC cars had a few good colorful stripe too.
-
@6mt_ftw I guess it's "retro" in the sense that you don't see these stripes on many basic cars, and they're rarely in those bold outline duo tone colors. If I were to start a company, it'd make basic, dirt cheap cars (just enough tech to classify as a safe car) and add these colorful stripes on them to boost interest.
