Here me out! I don't really *need* a car
-
Cars are expensive, and take up a lot of room. You know what's cheap and smol? A motorcycle. Furthermore, according to the tried and true N+1 formula, I'm currently just 1 bike away from having the ideal number of bikes!
But AIM, this is clearly summer brain talking. Come early October, winter brain will be cursing you for your shortsighted decisions. You know, just like the last three years.
Pshh. I don't know what you're talking about. Clear skies ahead baby!
Is it time to add a third dream bike to the stable? An imported VFR400R NC30 (or NC24 potentially) can be had for anywhere between $5k-$10k (perfect ones go for more). There were a fair number of color combinations, but I'm very partial to the red/white/blue ones, of which there were 5(?) different designs. These three are the winners in my eye.
A smaller, 400cc V4 making 60hp and revving to 15k would fit in well with the Husky and it's balls-to-the-wall 700cc single, and the Busa's wall of torque.
@kleebrz any tips on what to look for?
Oh and for those curious, the header image is a Ducati currently on BaT. A very nicely-appointed Ducati at that. If only it had dual round headlights, am I right? @fintail
-
@AestheticsInMotion I'm not a motorcycle guy, but I do have a soft spot for the red white and blue Hondas. I like the first one the best, but they all look good.
-
@AestheticsInMotion Those are pretty bikes, but there's no getting around the fact they aren't Volvo wagons.
-
@AestheticsInMotion The Hondas really have the "look", but even without dual round lights, that Ducati is pretty amazing, insane that it is 22 years old and still looks relevant. I also like an undertail exhaust.
On the dual headlight note, I found a nice Fizzer for sale in Spokane, low mileage, as new, but I need to go back to 1987 to buy it:

This is a good argument, I must admit. A manual V70 T5 from the early 2000's would be ideal.

The timing belts were replaced in 2003,
The ballz on that dude!
-
@AestheticsInMotion You're an idiot. Go buy a truck already.
-
@ibRAD naturally aspirated is a hard pass. I'd happily take another turbo 850 though!
-
@Exage03040 and he allegedly tracked it once. Original tires....
-
@AestheticsInMotion I'd want the turbo too. I didn't expect you'd come all the way out here for it, just whetting your appetite.

I recall seeing an impeccable turbo 850 XC with a manual in your neck of the woods about four years ago. Some combination of rare import + various swaps I believe? Anyways, I deeply regret not trying to buy it.
-
@AestheticsInMotion Is that an AWD one? I vaguely remember seeing that too if that's the case.
I'm more into the RWD wagons, but I do like the 850s. I was very into them when they were new. Hard to imagine a company these days concurrently offering not only a wagon, but one in both FWD and RWD! With your choice of turbo on either of them.

I see bought in May '21 and the Supercorsa's went on in June '21... Not seeing the mention of when the track day was.
True or not, I'm just really surprised this bro already has a 996 and decided to track the SPS on nearly 20yo belts. Someone called him brave, but I believe the correct term is moron.
-
@Exage03040 Rubber rots...
-
I did take this bike out on track once- last year with Ducati Revs at NJMP Thunderbolt.
I saw the comment about 19 year old belts on BaT and misread that as 19 year old tires. Regardless, still pretty nutty.

Challenge accepted! What's the region, so I can send my picks it to October_AestheticsInMotion for when he comes to his senses?
-
@AestheticsInMotion But you'll freeze in winter and frost and rain and..... oh my those are pretty. Do it.
-
@AestheticsInMotion Heated gear is a thing! BUY IT!!!!
and also, maybe some tire studs in case you get super stupid and decide to snow ride.

Already got it! But once it's below about 35° it keeps you alive, not comfortable. Sub 25° is when it really gets rough....
-
@john-norris PNW!
-
@AestheticsInMotion My winter cut off is around 45. which is about as cold as it ever gets here, and really only late at night or early morning....it's BRISK!
-
Ohhhhhh...VFR400's, I'm picking up what you're puttin' down @AestheticsInMotion Where are you looking for these 400's? I don't know of a good import site for motorbikes.
I think these thoughts sometimes but I'd need a cage for winter use here in the mitten state.
I have my R1200 GSA that I could ride every day and do I really need my Focus RS as my daily whip? Why not a beater ex-Police Interceptor or a cheap PHEV or EV?
Or going with your N+1 motorbike theory, maybe a Ural sidehack and some good cold weather gear? HAHAHA...
-
@Mr-Ontop Daily lows need to be at least 38 for me to do early morning rides, and even then I'm watching out in shaded areas.
