The things we do for kids.

Our ride to Oklahoma:
Settling in for a miserable highway drive purely because this is Emma (little sister)’s dream car and she begged me to pick it out of the available options. Sigh.
At least it’s a 4-cylinder.
-
@Mazda616 Bah, I’ve driven thousands of highway miles in a TJ. You’ve got a pretty decent cruiser there.
-
@Mazda616 You could of done worse besides now you can hunt down some mild off roading while you have it.
-
@Mazda616 it could've always been a versa.
-
@Mazda616 but what does the rental agreement say about doors-off?
-
@beefchips I bet it doesn't specify you have to return the thing with all the doors on it
-
@Mazda616 Ha! Try and have some fun with it.
My Emma is also obsessed with Jeeps. Always has been. -
@Vondon302 Now you just draw a straight line to your destination and take that line.
Or have I seen too many Jeep ads?
-
@Mazda616 As I've learned, the things you love are the things you can share with your family. Enjoy your trip.
-
@e90m3 My rentals resemble that remark! Once in a while you upgrade to a Spark!
-
It certainly is red. Looks nice.
-
@Mazda616 It'll be fine! Enjoy the drive, and enjoy getting back into your own vehicles when it's over!
-
Update: 3 hours in and it’s…not awful. The wind noise is on par with what I expected but the ride and drive is fine. Standard 4-cylinder SUV-type drive. Supposed to be sunny and hot in Oklahoma so we’re gonna take the top down this weekend!

I rented myself a separate small car to drive to Wakita. I might get a Versa…
-
@Mazda616 I think you’ll be fine. I test drove a Jeep JL and was impressed at the comfort. A hard top would reduce wind-noise, but otherwise I think you’ll enjoy it loads.
-
@Mazda616 Not sure how it is on the four-door, but I recommend leaving the top up in the second position, instead of all the way down. All the way down really reduces rear visibility for me.
And definitely use the straps to hold the top in place.

@Mazda616 Also if the straps don’t come with it I just use long outdoor Velcro straps, works great
