Cayennevertible

haha! hahahahaha! sort of wish they'd produced it, who doesn't love spotting murano and evoque verts? either way it's a good laugh to see.
-
@Nauraushaun that looks like something Rinspeed would've come out with

@Nauraushaun A few more photos and a blurb from the Porsche Museum:
https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2022/products/porsche-cayenne-anniversary-20-years-open-top-one-off-convertible-29272.htmlApparently it used a similar top mechanism to the current 911 Targas.
From Michael Mauer, Porsche's current Design Chief:
An SUV as a convertible is a challenge both aesthetically and formally. An SUV always has a large and heavy body. You combine this with a small top half and then cut off the roof β you get very strange shapes emerging from that.β
You got that right, Herr Mauer! I'd argue the Evoque pulled off the convertible SUV look with relative grace. But to his point, even the hardtop version of the Evoque was designed with a very small top portion, so chopping it off didn't seem such a drastic move.

@Nauraushaun Is this worse than the Cross-Cab? It looks like a demented Bentley TBH.

@Nauraushaun As a Murano CrossCabriolet fan, I love this. It's so bad it's good.
-
@Nauraushaun could've been worse, could've been a lot better too.

@Taylor-Martin I think this news is just making the rounds.
Just quietly that faff about "two rear ends" is bullshit and any car journo should know better than to highlight it. It's a common thing for design studies so you can study 2 designs using 1 build. This wasn't meant to be a show car, which is why it hasn't been shown until now.
Such is the world of click bait. Can take the journalists out of the jalopnik...
-
@Taylor-Martin I am disappointed that you'd assume that I'd write stories from Oppo without credit.
Every time I find something on Oppo first I give Oppo credit after the lede. That wasn't the case here. I have my Google Discover set up to give me car, aviation, and motorcycle news. Yesterday morning, that car showed up from a bunch of different sources.
As an owner of two Touaregs (and a desire for a first-gen Cayenne) I was genuinely intrigued.
-
@Miss-Mercedes I apologize if that came across as a diss, not at all my intention. I had a similar news feed back at my previous journalism gig, meant the comment more as a βthis story is all over the place.β
In truth, Oppo copied Autocar, who probably found it somewhere else who probably found it somewhere else and so on and so on.
Meanwhile, I doubt Oppo is source material for anything more than wacko shitposts haha
-
I guess that at the heart of "Cayennevertible" is "never"...
-
@Taylor-Martin Ah, you're good! Seems I may have read your comment wrong. I know Oppo has been through a lot with the J site so I want to drive it home that we won't be the same to y'all!
-
@Miss-Mercedes The A doesnβt have to try too hard to be better than the J, weβre pretty delighted it even exists!
