Firstly, my apologies for my absence. Secondly, as @RallyWrench introduced I have now added a second, albeit rougher, moose to my stable. As the title alludes this acquisition is (was) a bit of a mouse hotel, but is otherwise remarkably complete. Yes, it has some cosmetic rot, but that orange, oh is that orange going to pop! Due to the rodent infestation the plan for this car is to make it a beater rally tarmac machine for bombing the backroads without hesitation to rock chip nor airborne detours. It's a shame though, the interior base cloth spec was really nice but re-upholstering the interior is not in the cards for this car nor my budget.

      Amazon for attention:

Plans are as of now, remove bumpers, lowering springs and shocks (general suspension O/H), change of rolling stock, some rally inspired lighting and perhaps some other period add ons. In that order. Then maybe I'll attempt to get the Bosch D Jetronic system up and running or maybe just throw a set of SU's on it. The engine turns freely and the engine bay has been remarkably preserved. Of course wiring will need to be inspected before first fire up to avoid, well, a fire. There is a bit more to this car electronically then the Amazon which is a simple four fuse harness with a severe lack of relays.

Hopefully progress posts shall follow in the days and weeks to come. BTW, every project car needs an inspirational sketch.

I've got one of those too in my 72 VW Sqaureback! My rusty, crusty, rat hotel is running, albeit very very rough. If you're better off with yours let me know (especially if you live in the WV MD PA VA area).

Our cars are even kinda close in color!

Either way, that looks like an excellent project, and I wish you nothing but the best.

@R32rennsport I used that same compound and it's pretty good. I made the mistake of not cleaning the pad often enough and so I didn't get good results the first time I tried it. That single stage paint really does leap back to life. And the 242s have such fantastic proportions. It's basically the perfect project base. That was a great find!

@R32rennsport if your removing the bumpers and actually plan to bast it down dirt roads, some tube bumpers might not be a bad idea.

@HFV Naw, safety third. Thanks for looking out though.

@R32rennsport I’m mostly concerned for the car’s wellbeing. Old cars aren’t as strong as trees.

@HFV Fair point. I think at that point, knowing the speeds I'd most likely be traveling, the car would be a parts donor at that point. This isn't the nicest example and being a late model isn't terribly valuable either.
