PNW winds.

Weather advisory for winds up to 40 miles per hour at my house, but reports from the town north of me cite 60 miles per hour as of the past hour. Haven't slept all night. Power outages all over the area.
My entire house is whistling like the Ned Flander's comb trick, through all the windows and doors:
I got up at 3 something and peeked out a window. Trees be sideways and shit! Hope everyone else is safe.

Let's hope they are bringing good things to you and yours for 2021.
-
@dr-zoidberg you'll be fine

As a Midwesterner, that's just a normal Tuesday for me.
I sometimes think about the time I had to do my commute to work in 50mph crosswinds with 75-80 mph gusts. It wasn't storming or anything, in fact it was sunny, just very windy. That wasn't very fun. -
Combined with completely saturated soil due to heavy rains, trees will be coming down. I've had three trees come down and block my driveway in the last four weeks. Chainsaws be singing! Glad I invested in a generator several years ago. Stay safe Dr.
-
Huh. Glad I took a truck home and left my bike under covered parking at work
-
I just got up and had a look around. We lost power at about 12:45 am, and it was out until after 3. Shortly after the power went out, a tree branch landed on the roof, right above our heads. Didn't do any obvious damage, but I'll have to take a closer look later. Made a hell of a noise, though...
Hot tub took a hit, too, but it seems OK as well.
There are branches this size all over the place, but nothing bigger that I can see, at least on our property. Have to wait and see if the main road is clear, or if another tree came down and caused another mudslide...
All in all, it could have been, and has been, worse. Hope everyone else is OK.
-
@dr-zoidberg pretty crazy last night, but no major damage. Power flickered, but stayed on for the most part. Other parts of Olympia are probably screwed. Really need to buy a generac.
-
Woke up my recycling bin being blown over. Shit everywhere!
-
@dr-zoidberg We lost power around 0700. Could be out for 1 hour or 24. I am running off a little jump starter power bank to catch up on a few things, then who knows. It was very windy here in the few hours before the outage, gusts above 60 perhaps.
-
@dr-zoidberg I had a power pole down by work that closed the road to work from both sides, so I got a late start to my work day...which really sucks. Hope the weather calms down today
-
@dr-zoidberg The eastside got hit pretty hard. I managed to get some sleep, but had to get up for a 5:45 am call with Europe. I was lucky to still have power this morning. Many eastside school districts have cancelled both in-person and online classes for the day and will have the students watch recorded classes when they get power back. My company has cancelled a lot of meetings because too many employees have lost power and can't call in from home.
I haven't ventured out yet. However, my front porch and back alley are a mess.
-
@dr-zoidberg So far we've just lost a big willow tree, or at least I think it will have to come down since it lost a big part of the either the trunk or biggest branch, depending on how you look at it. My wife texted to let me know that they had lost power in their office, but she wasn't coming home because the boss lady is there.
The high wind warning go through 4pm but I really hope it ends long before that.
-
@dr-zoidberg We have SO many claims this morning. It's been declared a CAT or catastropic loss event.
-
@carsoffortlangley Wow! Living at the base of the Cascades this sort of thing happens frequently in the winter, so far this year seems like every two weeks or so. I guess we're kinda used to it, surprised it's a CAT in B.C.
-
@midengine It's mostly just based on the # of claims, not really the strength of the storm
