I melted my phone.
-
Yesterday I was welding the ramp gate of my trailer. One of the support pieces had broken when I loaded my snowmobile because I hadn’t welded it properly.
Anyway. I had my phone in the breast pocket of my winter overalls. Some of the slag from must have found its way into the pocket and onto the screen of my phone. It didn’t melt a hole, just a little divot. Not a big deal just kinda annoying. It’s like a bit of dirt that I can’t scrap off. In the future I’ll have to remember to zip that pocket while welding.
Oh also the sled now fits in my trailer with the gate closed. I had to make some adjustments. -
@hfv Oof. That sounds really annoying actually. So is it some slag that's permanently melted onto the screen or is it an indent from it?
-
@whoistheleader just the indent. The slag fell out.
-
@hfv I have a case on my phone for only four reasons:
- Metallic dust F's up phones.
- Hydraulic oil beats "waterproofed" speakers
- I drop the thing all the time (it gets oily)
- Welding / grinder sparks find things to melt
-
@sn4cktimes i have a leather wallet case it works really well for drops. But I really wish I’d had a glass screen protector.
-
Yay for welding content. Boo about your phone, but Yay the snowmobile fits awesome!
-
@hfv Welder / mechanic. I don't get fancy cases. I get waterproof/dropproof. They aren't nice, but they protect my pocket computer. They suck for phone calls though.
-
@sn4cktimes I had a Lifeproof case for my Pixel 2, people hated calling me. Even better, my other friend had a Lifeproof case for her iPhone, so our phone calls usually started with us screaming "what?" at each other for a bit.
-
@hfv I automatically assumed this was an @Borsuq composition before I opened this...still not disappointed.
-
That would drive me mad. No screen protector?
I have a little melty crater on the bottom edge of my phone case, I guess spatter found its way into my pocket since it did appear after I did a bunch of welding making an adapter to pull a leaf rake thing with my tractor.
-
@cb Yup, that's pretty much the scenario. I recently tried a Punkcase. It was cheaper... The price = the quality I guess, because it's even crappier than the Lifeproof case.
