Oppo Among Us?

It seems no one here has an Xbox One, so how about the free mobile game Among Us? Or you can get it on PC for a very small amount of money. It's really fun! Please let me know if you're interested and we may be able to get a game going.

It's not hard to learn and a ton of fun. I'm gauging interest. We'd probably want to use the Discord gaming chat for this.

@samv8 It's currently 8PM eastern (east coast of US). I doubt it will get going within the hour though. We need at least 5 for it to be fun. So, that's two right now.

@spasoje Yeah, it might be too late now. We'd need at least 5 to have a competitive game and at best we have three tonight. I'm just not good at planning these sorts of things.

I'm guessing I should create a poll and have a game set to join at a given time on a night given in advance. Maybe this weekend.

I've never played Among Us, but I'm interested to play with other Opponauts. Do you communicate by text or voice during the game? I'm doubly interested if it's the latter.

@annoying_salman You don't communicate except during the meeting sections. There is built in text chat but it is far more fun on a discord voice chat.

I see. Well I'm down to play Among Us, though again this will be the first time for me. Will there be a post about the programs needed to join the game (like the Discord room or something like that)?

@annoying_salman @annoying_salman I'll work 9ut some details and make it at a set time this weekend or something. All you need is the mobile app (though your ping might not be great as well have to use the north american servers) and them to join the discord. Ask @RallyDarkstrike about that one.

My daughter is a big fan. I tried it out, but found it annoying for a variety of reasons.

• Nobody plays a default game. Changing the vision distance and movement speeds really jacks with the playability of the game. The developers had it right the first time.
• Most of the games I ended up in had people with other lines of communication (usually Discord) who were sharing information (cheating) after they had died. When I was imposter, there was no text discussion, but somehow they "figured it out" and I was ejected. I finally realized what was going on when some kid said, "my brother said it was blue that killed him" in the text chat. After a brief exchange, they admitted they were sitting in the same room, one on a phone, one on an iPad.
• It's dang near impossible to connect to a public game. It takes 10-20 attempts before finally connecting to a game and nine out of ten have modified settings, make it impossible for the imposter to win.
• There's no way to filter the game search. I can't emphasize how annoying it is to connect to a game and discover that the player speed is set to 4X and the player vision distance is 10X.

Alright, enough ranting. Go have fun with it. I think I'll skip this one.

@bicyclebuck The reasons you mentioned are exactly why I never play public lobbies. It's really only fun when other people aren't cheating and no one is messing with the settings. But when the game is balanced, it's really fun. I don't even see what the point of a game is if it's only possible for one team to win.

@bicyclebuck that's exactly why I never go in public lobbies, only setup games with those I trust to not spoil or cheat
