WOW, is this bad... and from the same company that gave us the BMW Films series.
I’m going to guess that what we have going on here is a case of “Germans trying to be funny.” I was born and raised in Germany, so I can identify this all-too-common crisis quite easily. The use of the term “bullshit,” for example, might seem a bit harsh to Americans, who don’t expect to hear a curse word in an ad by a major company. But, I recall that my high school German dictionary’s translation for the rather mild German term “quatsch” was “bullshit.” So this just might be a case of cultural differences.
Not that it really excuses it, since it’s pretty easy to find an American to watch a commercial before releasing it and offending a key demographic in one of your most profitable markets.
I’m no marketing expert, but unless there’s data showing that such a strategy will be advantageous to the brand’s image/sales (and I have reason to believe that such data does not exist), BMW should probably just stop being weird about old people.Palette cleaner:

@davesaddiction Gag. Kill me.
-
-
It's just so, so bad. How this got through final approval is beyond me.
-
@davesaddiction I can't even put a thumb on what was worse - the entire thing, or ALL OF IT. Like, wow. I just ... wow.
-
@davesaddiction Besides the M2, I'm not really sure I can say BMW has done ANYTHING compelling to me in the last 5 years.......
I mean, the M8 gran coupe looks good I guess. But it's a million dollars and a million pounds.....
-
@davesaddiction oh and the worst f***ing part is THE MILLENIAL DIPSHITS WHO MADE IT ARE TRYING TO BE IRONIC AND MAKE SOMETHING EVERYBODY HATES. Like ... maybe we really are the worst. Ugh.
-
OMGWTFBBQ This damn commercial is making me regress. Must. Stop. Typing.
-
@frinesi2 LOL
-
@wasgtithengtothennovathengtinowa4 I like the i8 (which debuted more than 5 years ago admittedly, though the convertible version is more recent).
-
@davesaddiction The 7-Series was doing a pretty damn good job of identifying marketing bullshit. The only "emotional" "experience" I'm getting out of this ad is how strongly I agree with the 7-Series' spot-on assessment. What a disaster of a campaign.
-
@davesaddiction That "grandpa car" isn't even halfway to legal drinking age. They could have used a car that's actually somewhat old, even in dog years. That whole thing is just so bizarre and not well thought out. And the
newugly one is also being very rude and passive aggressive. I say this advocates for elder abuse. -
@davesaddiction LOL...oh man that was bad.
"ELECTRIC DRIVE YOURSELF TO HELL, TAMAGOTCHI!!" -
@davesaddiction It certainly makes it clear where BMW is going. That car with the V-12? It's old fashioned. What you want is the touch screen and mood lighting!
It's sad to see BMW actually stating that they are throwing away the driving experience and are now promoting a digital cocoon that let's you ignore the road.
-
BMW marketing the past couple years or so have been atrocious, their Ok Boomer ad probably has to be the worst recently
-
@davesaddiction Wow, what a truly terrible ad. Not only do they design the first M3/M4 I don't want to drive (or even look at); then they double down with smug, insulting, ad campaigns.
Maybe I'm just an old now and am just upset that I am no longer being catered to?
-
@davesaddiction This is the only time I've ever agreed with an E65, and that's the car that started BMW's slide into this bullshit.
Not at all surprised to see Bradley coming in with the festering hot take.

I might just start using that phrase! Thanks BMW
-
@davesaddiction Thank you for this. It makes me feel 10,000% better about my Camaro.
-
OMG! Who signed off on that garbage?
-
More dislikes than likes on the video too. That's...not surprising.

But young people don't have money and the olds do! You'd think they'd know that.
