I often forget these exist. They're a very cool alternative to the 'normal' options, and man that one's clean.

@frinesi2
We said no and bought a Frontier instead.
-
@frinesi2 Call me dumb, but why does it have two shifters:
-
@taylor-martin One is for the manual gearbox, the other is for the transfer case.
-
@mm54 thanks! I wouldn't have thought to click on that particular button.
-
-
@frinesi2 well damn, that first one is just twenty minutes from me. A friend back in high school
hooneddrove his dads 2wd Mighty Max when his CRX Si was getting the B18 swap. Both were abused beyond all reason. I can still hear the thrash metal. -
@taylor-martin It has 10 forward gears, 5 for 2wd, and 4wd-high range and five for 4wd low range or 2wd low range. I like to drive around the yard in 2wd low range.

@jeepoftheseus Hello neighbor! The circle on that map damn near hits my house...
-
@highlander Ah, got it
-
@frinesi2 @bicyclebuck
New ZR2 in lieu of the Taco Tax here. Even the new Taco Tax was pretty bad. Saved many thousands until it GMs on me or something. -
@zaphod-s-heart-of-gold well hot dog, my office is in that circle. Are there any other Raleigh/Triangle Oppos? I know we had another in Clayton before the jump to the hyphen.

I don't know, you're the first I've found. I work in Clayton though....fun coincidence.
-
@frinesi2 I said no and bought an Xterra instead of a 4runner
-
@frinesi2 Remember when Mitsubishi used to be daring? I do.
-
@alfalfa We gotta get out and do some wheeling. Im aching for a quick day trip.
-
In the late 80's one of the 4wd magazines review of the Mighty Max prompted my stepdad into buying a new 4wd Mighty Max SPX. It was said to be superior to the Toyota off-road and better equipped for less money.
-
@onlytwowheels well ... was it?
-
@frinesi2 Those do look cool, parts becomes a problem though. I had the same thought and bought a 90 Mazda B2600i. While it was a cool little truck I regretted not buying something more common.
The Mazda was relatively low volume and didn't share a lot of parts with other cars and wasn't made for very long so some parts were hard to find (or didn't exist) and there was almost no community information out there about it.
Probably would have been fine if I bought a Nissan though, but I did regret not saving up a couple more thousand for the Toyota when it was all said and done.
-
Funny that you ask...... so far as pricing and equipment, the Mighty Max was an incredible bargain compared to a Toyota. I don't ever recall my stepdad taking it off-road in the 2 or so years he owned it. He traded it to my stepbrother for his very lifted 1979 GMC shortbed.... a move that no one in the family could figure out. My guess was that it was a charitable deal, so the boy could have an economical and reliable transportation for college.
-
@hammerheadfistpunch we deffo do. My tire installation was postponed due to shipping issues, and I have a squeaky ball joint somewhere. Once that gets sorted we need to do a run.
-
@frinesi2 I might have to go look at that MM this weekend, although itβs not that much cheaper than the 4x4 Tundra I purchased last January.
-
Dodge Ram 50
-
@frinesi2 Triton!
