I ordered this from eBay just for The Cars cover and article. (I'm a huge Cars fan)
First ad on the inside cover: I forgot you used to be able to buy a Renault in the US.
Wow - this is a piece of history. I'm going to take some time and read this cover to cover.Top 100 albums 40 years ago.
I'll need to read this article about Jon Bonham of AC/DC also
I wonder if I can still order British Army surplus shorts. God I hope so! Only $17.95 plus shipping (about $57 today, what a bargain!)
If I ever start a band - I'm naming it Bombay Britches -
@trivet This is great and I love it. I used to listen to the top 40 every sunday with Casey Kasium (SP?). I remember most of these songs very well.

Same here!
Anxiously waiting to see what song was number one - and caring about it! That shit mattered! Damn, those were good days
"And now, it's time for a long distance dedication........"

The 80's: Bad hair, bad clothes......great music.
-
Emotional Rescue has to be one of the worst Stones' songs ever. But I love it. I happened to be at this Phish show from 97 with a cover of this song:
-
@trivet This is really cool. That top 100 was pretty much my playlist back in those days. RIP John Bonham, but also Bill Evans. Two absolute titans.

How many hours wasted with the finger on the 'pause' button to start recording "the number one song!" and then he'd talk over the start of the song. grr.

OH SHIT!!! We used to yell at the damn DJs that would talk over the ENTIRE intro of Phil Collins: In the Air Tonight
-
@trivet Or the outro. Kids have it easy now days with their internet downloads. I still remember how much effort it took to get songs like 'footloose' or the ghostbusters theme song.
I also love the cars. The soundtrack to my paper route!
And on a more serious/personal note, I drink too much, and memory of bonham is definitely a motivator to cut it out.

@trivet I almost forgot how popular the "safari look" got for awhile, people were wearing khaki shirts with shoulder straps with their business suits. A lot of fashion is cyclical, but that's one thing that's never seemed to come back
-
@trivet I had a lot of albums from that list! Including One More from the Road from The Kinks. Great live album. Of course everybody had Back in Black. That was required listening.

Thank God. That and parachute pants.....

That is an amazing Hot 100 list. I have quite a few of those records on LP, including the top 3...

@mark-tucker
Yeah - most of these are on my iPod. I just leave it on shuffle when I'm driving. -
