Life is too cruel sometimes

If Texas gets more snow than I do this winter I’m going to be quite irate.

@just-jeepin Don't worry, it didn't last. But it was super fun.
-
Umbrellas... in the snow?
-
@mm54 They’re from Texas. They don’t know how to snow.
-
@just-jeepin We just got to look at the fluffy flakes coming down. It didn't accumulate where I was at all.
You at least got a nice powder covering for Christmas. I know I was there.

This is absolutely true. Still makes me laugh thinking about seeing people trying to drive (or more accurately, stop) in the snow in 4WD vehicles while I drove past them in my RWD Mustang with performance tires. 24 years in the Midwest teaches you how to get around in the snow. lol

@haveacarortwoorthree I remember being in San Antonio last year for work in November when there was a cold snap the first couple days.
The first thing that struck me was the kids at the bus stop wrapped in blankets because none of them had heavy coats. When I said something to my grandfather, who was stationed at Ft Sam Houston in the 50’a, he laughed and talked about how guys would request winter gear that were stationed there and sell it to friends stationed places that actually needed it so they could have extra sets.
We didn’t work one day because the highway was closed due to ice and the place we were supposed to go was only admitting essential personnel. I was driving several guys around in our rental rwd Charger with the traction control off and couldn’t slide without REALLY trying.

@kiltedpadre This is 100% accurate. lived in DFW for a winter and it snowed and people acted like it was raining elephants.

Even though they see it every year. Inconceivable.

@chariotoflove To be fair, when it dumps rain in Utah that one time a year people act in a similar manner, like they are going to see animals pairing up on the corner waiting for a boat, where in Texas people didn't even slow down.
-
@just-jeepin I fed your pain. We got snow on the 29th and none since. That was the day after I bought my snowmobile, at least I had one day of fresh snow to ride. There’s only about 2”s on the 10 day forecast too.

Oh, I see some of them slow down, but they never do the obvious things. They still tailgate instead of allowing more space, and instead of avoiding quick movements, if anything they get twitchier. Twenty years here and I still SMH.
My favorite is the annual pics the evening news throws up of some stuck 18-wheeler that tried to get up one of those sky ramps in a wintry mix. Good times.

We had a snow day today. Classes, both in person and online, were canceled. The roads were dry when I got up at 8:30. Massive overreaction. But that's normal down here, where snow is just so darned rare.
Did you see my snow post yesterday?

No, but now you're just rubbing it in.

Wait till you see the average Australian pretend that they know how to snow...even when they've never seen snow before.

Oh how I wish this were true. I mean it's true of some people. But others think the thing to do is put on their hazards and drive around slowly.
Beyond that, others think that in heavy rain, with horribly visibility, there's no reason to have their lights on. And of course plenty happily drive into flooded road sections.

Before Christmas, there was over 3 feet of snow on the ground here. Christmas day was heavy rain and record warm. It has rained a couple more times since then, and one was a rain to snow mix. There is maybe 2 inches of snow left, and it has been above freezing during the day. I expect bare ground by the end of the week.
-
@haveacarortwoorthree Same with Delaware, weirdly, for a border state. We get maybe a couple of dustings a year, but schools get closed for 1/16 of an inch, supermarkets are completely emptied of French Toast ingredients, and the whole day before, all anyone wants to talk about is the damn snow. The fact that grassy areas might look a little frosty until the afternoon sun hits is really traumatic for people here.
-
@onlytwowheels I'm envious you've had anything for that long of a window of time, but I suppose given how old and worn down my LJ's tires are, I should be grateful.
Which, hopefully I'll rectify later this week. Always more money.
-
@just-jeepin It's a really cruel joke, I feel ya.
-
Texas snow is my kinda snow. You get it once, and it is a surprise 4” (ha ha!), but then it’s gone a day later and you’re back to sunshine.
