Didn't even burn myself!
-
In the long ago time of 2005, I bought a Logitech Z-2300 for my PC system, which since I've been WFH I've been using with my phone instead.
Sadly this killed the connector, which left me with one channel unless I propped the jack a certain way, then only one channel, then in the last week NO channels. As my stimulus payment was still MIA at the time, I decided to attempt a fix rather than a replacement, so I got a replacement 3.5mm jack, and, steeling my nerve, cut off the broken plug. Soldering in the new plug went surprisingly well (I've never been one to attempt electrical work, even minor stuff like this for fear of messing it up...), though I did forget to put the shrink tubes on first, but I was able to cut them and slide them on after the fact. I added one more overwrap, and crossing my fingers, plugged it into my phone.
Success! No crackles, hissing or pops, sound is coming out from both speakers and the sub. I'm back in business baby!

Well done!

@skyfire77 Very well done! An electronics repair on something like this that was never meant to be fixed is always really satisfying.
-
@skyfire77 I got a soldering iron for Christmas and you're inspiring me to fix things!
-
@skyfire77 Sweet! Those are usually a tricky proposition.
-
@skyfire77 nicely done, I'm successful about 50:50 on electronics soldering. Between my bad eye sight, too large a soldering tip and no training, I'm always hopeful but keep my expectations low, you knocked it out of the park here.
-
@skyfire77 You soldered something without burning yourself? Is that an option?
-
@skyfire77 nice, 1/8” TRS connectors are not easy, SO TINY! Wires have to be stripped just so and you have to be really careful not to melt either the plastic bits on the jack or the insulation on the wires.
