So I bought a boat today...
-
If anyone remembers my thread from last week I was going to look at a boat. Owner flaked and I moved on from it. My buddy who found it hounded the owner and we went to go look at it.
Got to the home it was being stored at. Had a cover and was pretty well taken care of. We removed the cover and I checked the interior. It looks like the cover was off in the fall, a bunch of leaves and such in the seats. The battery was dead, so we hooked up a jump pack, turned the key and the "Stabil" filled fuel fired the engine up. We shut it down and I was pretty happy that it ran.
Checking over the boat, the floors were solid and all the electrics worked. The paperwork was good, so no worries there. Checking out the transom, it was solid on the inside and on the outside it has been strengthened with a diamond steel plate. I was a little suspicious of this, but I called a boat mechanic friend and sent him some pictures. He said he had done it before and it's used when you've got a larger engine and want to be safe rather than sorry. P.O. ran it like that for 2 years, so I wasn't too worried.
After some discussion and checking out the trailer, I made the deal. Hooked up the trailer and checked the wiring. The connector was pretty brittle, but the lights worked. Owner gave me a hitch and brought her home!
So here she sits, at home waiting for me to clean her out. I cut the trailer wiring off so I can replace it, but for now it's in good shape and I can't wait to work on it!
Anyone have an idea on a name? I was inspired to use "Denied Bank Loan" from Vice Grip Garage. It's Brown and very 70's, so I was thinking "Regal Beagle" also.

@rctothefuture the most important question is - does it qualify as a gunboat?

When I'M in it it does! Flex pose
-
@rctothefuture I never knew Chrysler made boat motors.
I doubt its a Hemi?
-
@frinesi2 sadly no, the young gentlemen was not of legal age and I didn't feel comfortable handing it over to a guardian. I did sell said gun to my buddy, so the money was used on the boat. Gun Boat by Proxy?
-
@rctothefuture and now we have your boat's new name:
Gun Boat by Proxy
-
@rctothefuture be careful starting the motor out of the water. They overheat pretty quickly with no water cooling them down.
If it were me, I'd remove the diamond plate from the transom and see what's what. Would suck to find out the transom is no good while you're watching it and the motor sink to the bottom.
-
@brickman no sir, Chrysler made marine engines for many years! This is a 2 stroke, lovely little motors. Their history is pretty crazy.
They used to make these in Wisconsin too, which is neat.
-
@frinesi2 that'll be a tough one to explain to the DNR!

Reagle Beagle is great!
Keeping in the theme:
Boar's Nest
Korova
Rosie
Silver Dollar
The Hub (from that 70's show...so it still qualifies) -
Congragulations! It's the first of the two happiest days of your life.
-
@rctothefuture congrats - I'm a sucker for boats. Enjoy it!

The Texas Highway Patrol (Department of Public Safety) has gunboats.
-
@ttyymmnn Just was looking on eBay for those knock off machine guns you can get for Willys Jeeps. Little vietnam green and I'd be on to something here...
-
Now you need a Forester to tow your Forester.
-
@rctothefuture We had a similar boat to this back in the early 80's and we rocked a 55HP Chrysler on it. Looked just like your 75. It would backfire a lot, and one time it backfired so hard it blew the engine cover off. We watched it sink into the waters of Black Creek, FL.
-
Name it "LeBaron"

How odd! I would not have gone through a deal where you have to "force" a seller into it. You probably don't know what his deal was? I assume he just was not good at followup and nothing more given it worked out well.

How about "Texas Highway Patrol" for the name? I'm sure that'd be illegal. You'd have to get two extra few motors as well! How about "Highway Patrol"? Still illegal?
-
@vincentmalamute yeah, the guy admitted he didn't have notifications on and missed my messages. He felt bad because he didn't want to be "that guy".
-
@rctothefuture Give it a name that belongs on a 5 million dollar yacht.
-
@davesaddiction never hung around big yachts. I assume it's stuff like "Million Dollar Bet" or "Yachty McYachterson"?
-
Some funny (and terrible) ones in here:
-
Title it "RUN RUN", and just place the two words strategically.
-
Forester Hellcat
-
@davesaddiction The upside down "Uh oh" gave me a good laugh. Might name it "Inflammable" and see how many folks know their english.
