Dow Chemical permanently suspends donations to objectors.

Not temporarily, for the rest of their political careers. I mean, they shouldn’t have been funding these idiots in the first place, but I can appreciate the lifetime ban.

I sadly don't take that from the statement. "Duration of their terms of office", which I think means if they're re-elected or are elected to a different job they're eligible for donations.
-
@just-jeepin sadly you’re right, they’ve updated the statement

@bman76 You never know when the tides of politics will change, and you’ll want to grease the hand that controls your future.

@bman76 Off topic but something you might find interesting. Dow HQ in midland mi actually has a ton of mid century modern architecture. Me and the GF actually drove up and gave ourselves a little tour of the town 2 days ago. Looking at pretty things is a nice distraction.

@milky That’s really cool. You should post something on the main board.

@bman76 If they had principles, it would be for life. All hail the corporate oligocracy.
-
@fintail So long as corporate bribery is encouraged I can't imagine anything changing quite honestly. Laws need to be changed so that politicians raise money Bernie-style, make the "profession" of lobbying punishable with jail time.

This is where I get off the train, I'm afraid. Sure, there's no shortage of corruption when money's involved, but lobbying in general is a necessary feature. Apple needs to be able to talk to Congress if they're proposing a mandatory federal back door to encryption, e.g.. Exxon, for all their ills, has a right to push back against, say, making ICEs illegal.
Now, how to deal with tobacco and oil firms that actively lie to the public about the impact of their products, well, that's a separate discussion.
-
@just-jeepin I have to admit my views of lobbying isn't positive at all, I will defer to you and have an open mind that there may very well be some benefits. Hard to imagine, but possible all the same.
-
@midengine I don’t know that the benefits outweigh the downsides, admittedly.
