Jolene the Sunbird now has a working radio again. I finally got the new amp in there (from a ‘95 Cadillac) and tested it with the original radio face. All good.
A week ago today, I tried to change the clock on the radio and it wouldn’t respond to hardly any button presses and the clock itself froze at 9:17. I tried to turn the radio on and off and change stations. No dice. I knew then that the “brain”/control module of the radio had gone out - again.
I’m pretty proud of this fix. I used to be scared to attempt fixing anything on a car without help. I didn’t grow up with a father figure or anyone to show me how to do these things. But, I have now successfully taken 1/4 of the Sunbird’s dashboard apart three different times and replaced the amp twice (my first replacement was from an ‘88 Chevy truck and didn’t last but a year). The original one the car had in it when I bought it was going out and made it so the radio had to be turned literally all the way up to hear anything.
Now, it sounds better than ever. I have a radio amp from a ‘95 Cadillac (they mounted theirs in the trunk) and four speakers from a junkyard Cavalier with 20-something thousand miles. Yay!

Looks really good dude! You should feel super proud of that fix. May your tunes be banging and bass be poppin.
@mazda616 Wow, I avoid dashes and electrics like the plague, I give it to my friend who owns the shop.

@Mazda616 Glad to see Jolene here. You're strange love for an early 90's gm compact is always a pleasant distraction! Nice work on the repair too.

@Mazda616 Nice work! I had to replace the head unit on my brother's car awhile back....got one from a 2010 Accent at a salvage yard, his car is a 2009 Accent, so it was plug and play! ....2010 was the year they changed the color of the dash lighting though, so all his dash lights are lime green and the radio is blue
