What say 'yall about these:
I was under the impression these were downmarket A6's. Looks way better though.

@st80mnd I test drove one with the 2.0T and 6MT back in 2015. Very nice car. It feels and drives much more like a larger Mk6 Golf than the North American Passat, which makes sense since it is based on a global platform. I don't think it really shares anything with the Audi A6 (the platform they put this and a few others like the Tiguan on was called A6), but the materials and build quality are quite nice for the class. It is pretty engaging to drive as far as midsize sedans go. I really wanted to buy the one I drove, which was lightly used sitting at a GMC dealer, but couldn't quite get there on price.

They're supposed to be pretty nice, until the interior starts falling apart and the electronics start going bad and the engine has all kinds of issues. Other than those minor things, good cars.
Basically there's a reason they're cheap.
-
@dtg11 Are these the motor which require valve cleaning?
-
@st80mnd I've heard they've got a lot of reliability issues....electrics and engine/trans.
-
They look fantastic, the interior is fantastic as well, especially in comparison to the awful standard Passat interior of the era.
Engine... I think they were 2.0T only, which has carbon on valve issues, cam/HPFP issues, and possibly even turbo issues but I'm not familiar enough with them to be sure on the last bit. The 1.8T's would chew through K03 turbos due to small oil passages and absurdly-long oil intervals.
If they offered a VR6/DSG option, these would have been amazing and fun family sedans.
EDIT: They DO offer a VR6, with 4MOTION AWD to boot! Oh what a beautiful disaster.
-
@st80mnd it's more or less a coupé non-US Passat (but longer than the Passat...), it's based on the Golf and Jetta MK5 with a very confusing denomination.
The early 2.0T had some oil consumption issue related to rings if i recall correctly, not sure if this one might be affected.

@italianjobr53 I believe so, not VW guy so not for sure.
-
@st80mnd Wait until the border opens up and buy a used car in Montana.

This is how I feel about every VW. After my 2004 Touareg V6, I pretty much decided to never buy another VAG vehicle - especially used and out of warranty. It is a shame, as they make some really nice looking and performing cars. R32 is always on my radar, but I don't think I could make myself buy one.
-
It's a 4-door "coupe" version of the Euro-spec Passat instead of the bloated overgrown Murrican version. Think of it as the A5 Sportback to the Passat's A4.
-
@musashi66 I tend to be in this boat. My experience with owning a A4 has really put me off modern VAG products.
