Thanks to you, yes, I'm eagerly watching all the vids on the AC on YT. While following the Vendee globe. https://tracking2020.vendeeglobe.org/en/ That is a very close race and so little breakage (so far...). I am a bit amazed that 3rd place is a non-foiling boat driven by a man with only 1 hand.
Gitana (a giant trimaran) is trying for a Jules Vern again! http://www.gitana-team.com/en/tracker/
There's another race going on that is a little different. Folks are rowing boats Westward across the Atlantic. 2800 miles in boats that can do 2 or 3 knots at best. And it's all muscle power. https://www.taliskerwhiskyatlanticchallenge.com/2020-leaderboard/
Lia Ditton rowed from SFO to Hawaii a few months back. Her tale is quite good on the daily struggle for this kind of voyage. https://rowliarow.com/

Re Vendee: it’s the joy of that race, isn’t it? Doesn’t matter what disadvantages you’re labouribg under, if you hang in there long enough and hard enough, make a few good calls and have a little luck, you’re in with a chance.Re Gitana: I love those big French no-holds-barred dragsters: power, grace, and audacity. I’ve followed the Jules Verne attempts since forever: I remember hanging out for the daily progress reports back when Peter Blake was trying for it in Enza.
Re rowing: is it just me, or is Talisker a singularly appropriate sponsor for that race. I’d certainly need a few wee drams.
Funnily enough, I was listening to a radio interview in the car today of Tara Mulvaney, who circumnavigated NZ by kayak. Took her 411 days. Slightly different deal than the rowers, as she landed to sleep or to wait out weather, but that’s an awful long time on your own, and an awful small vessel to take on some pretty rough water in. It’s takes a special kind of mad...

@distraxi what’s the water temp this time of year?
-
@distraxi Man, thats cool! I didn't know you could just pull forward to un capsize these, that was awesome!
-
@gmporschenut-also-a-fan-of-hondas About 21c/70F. Less an awful lot of windchill when you’re traveling at that speed.
-
@st80mnd Me neither. Knew they could be righted pretty easily (major design feature relative to the cats) - didn’t know how. I guess the lift from the immersed foil must do it.
