Now that I know this exists, I want one.

@benjrblant neat! It’s like a slightly larger gravel express

@benjrblant @cb Be still, my foolish heart

I was looking at this one last week:
https://carfromjapan.com/cheap-used-toyota-sprinter-carib-1997-for-sale-5f591a52f30ad2c3660a1900

For a moment I thought I was looking at some sort of JDM Subaru, then I recognized its Toyota-ness. Everything about it screams 1990s.

I thought it was an Impreza from the thumbnail. This is cool.

You peeps get hosed on imports down there. That wouldn't be listed for over 8k CAD here...
For example, here's a '03 Spec-B Wagon for $7,300USD with 67,100mi

@exage03040 everything JDM jumps in price once it becomes importable here, because they know they can get the money for it. Prices start going up in the months before. The sales guy at Japanese Classics said when I bought my Aristo that they’re already seeing JZX100 prices going into the stratosphere, and they won’t be importable here until September. (There’s another local importer that has an Aristo in good shape, for $19000 USD. It doesn’t even have a radio.)
That Sprinter is awesome. I love the kitschy 90s seats.
-
That's 100% on your importers screwing you.
You'll go through the boom and bust Canada did a decade ago.
-
@benjrblant Oh wow, love the color, fog lights and interior on that!
-
@exage03040 pfff... That's a lot for that if you ask me. Especially for a silver one.
-
@exage03040 nah, look at prices on places like Goo-Net-Exchange. Almost everything over 25 that isn’t a complete pile is the equivalent of several thousand USD.
As far as boom and bust, well, you may be right.
-
How the hell did the owner manage to keep this car in immaculate condition...
-
@annoying_salman seems like most every JDM import is insanely clean and super low km's. Not sure how much of that is the fact that cars are expensive to own there and thus people are careful, or how much it's just that only the cleanest ones get imported.
Either way, DO WANT. Very rad.
-
@powderhound I'm pretty sure the Impreza and this are pretty much the same size
-
I know JDM tax is a thing but over 10k seems a bit steep for this, even though it is cool.
We got the same car in Europe as a Corolla but with different front end and without 4wd I think.
