      ⚠ Poll May Switch Choices

Welcome to This or That; Where I choose 2 vehicles (but probably can't afford) and you choose which one you'd rather have with the poll.
You can explain your choice below, or not.

Last week we had two large German sedans battle it out for the price of $12k. It would be the stylish BMW 740i with M-Sport Package over the Powerful Mercedes S600, 38 : 18

Today is of course July 4 and Independence Day for our American contributors and readers!
I have selected some restomodded americana for your scrutineering.

First up is a Matte Navy Blue 1969 Ford Bronco, built by Gateway Bronco. It has a retrofitted Naturally Aspirated 5.0L “Coyote” V8 Engine with 460hp, 6-Speed Automatic Transmission and Twin Stick Dana 20 Transfer Case 4x4. Other Modifications include a 2” body lift, James Duff 3.5” Lift, BFG KM2 35’s, Wilwood Disc Brakes and Borla Exhaust. Inside is a matched Dashboard and Wood Pickup Bed with Brown King Ranch Leather Bucket Seats, Wooden Steering Wheel, AC by Vintage Air, and Alpine Sound System.

Feel the need? The need for speed?

It’s up against a Sunfire Yellow 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe. It has a retrofitted Naturally Aspirated 6.2L LS3 V8 Engine with 430hp, Tremec TKO600 5-Speed Manual Transmission and RWD through a Dana 44 with LSD. Other modifications include a New Replacement Chassis and Suspension from Street Shop, Brembo Brakes with C6 rotors and 18" Black CCW Wheels. Inside is a Black Interior with Leather Bucket Seats, Wooden Steering Wheel, AC by Vintage Air and AM/FM Radio.

@Exage03040 from everything I read, those gen 1 broncos drive like ass. I'll take the vette and put some less egregious wheels on it thanks

@Exage03040 200 grand for a C2, and it doesn't even have the proper 427. No dice!

@Exage03040 Stupid prices for both. In a pinch I’d take the Corvette, no desire to own a first gen Bronco.

            We apologize for the inconvenience.

I mean $200k for that Bronco, and it's got those nasty body lift/bumper gaps. Eww. Having owned (admittedly, a crappy version) a '69 Bronco, I don't think there's anything you could possibly do it to make it worth $100k to me, let alone $200k

I'm team Vette for this one, but also not enamored with the price on it, either.

I’m offended by the price tag of both of these vehicles and refuse to vote.

Can confirm. I know someone that rolled one, only mildly being an idiot.

I'd driven them, along with first generation Scouts and of course contemporary Jeeps, long before they became high priced nostalgia items. A fairer statement might be that half a century of progress has transformed our expectations of how a small 4WD should behave on pavement.

In its day it was considered alright, but people did not expect such a thing to be a nice commute car -- the crossover revolution was far in the future (its first shot was really not until the early 80s with the XJ Cherokee, Bronco II, and S-Blazer, and most of today's CUV buyers would consider even those vehicles to be fairly agricultural in nature). They were for outdoorsmen and farmers.

A first generation Bronco with a Coyote howling away underhood where a big but staid truck-oriented I6 or a mild 302 used to live... well, they may revoke my man card for saying this, but that sounds like more fun on paper than on either the street or a trail.

@Ad-absurdum-per-aspera I was all set to vote for the Bronco, but for $200k I don’t want to have to swap out a transmission.

Of course, if I could afford the Bronco, I could afford the swap.

                      On walkabout. Back soonish.

No fucking way is any Bronco worth that much to me. The Corvette is a better vehicle in every way except offroading. And since I don't go offroading, the Corvette is better in every way to me... particularly style and performance. So the Corvette is the easy vote for me. And the fact that the Vette is a manual and the Bronco is a slushbox helps seal the deal for me.

Sidenote... the Corvette ad link only takes me to the picture and not the ad.

@Just-Jeepin -- I've been puzzling over what that Bronco is for, and after looking carefully at what was and wasn't done in that build (one conspicuous omission: anything about the innards of the axles), my conclusion is: the cover of the premiere issue of Martha Stewart's Wheelin'.

I doubt its tires have ever felt dirt, or ever will, never mind any risk of getting deer blood or fish guts or construction materials on the King Ranch leather or recycled barn wood floorboards.

There's a butt for every seat, and this specimen found one with a rather thick wallet—I don't know where to find BaT bidding history, but some comments make me think this one took a real rocket ride at some point in the process.

I can look good enough (admittedly Pareto's law is enforced harshly in that realm) for a lot less money, and there are things I'd do differently (also for a lot less money) if the goal were a using 4WD.

I trust that the winning bidder is happy, enjoys being the center of attention at show'n'shines, and, despite the brake upgrade, doesn't dip too hard into the new engine on that primitive, tail happy, high center of gravity vehicle.

@Exage03040 Corvette, easy choice, don't hate Broncos, but as a cheap used truck, not at the crazy prices they are getting. C2 Corvette is really cool, I would have to swap out the wheels though, I am not a big fan on black wheels in general, but on a 60s car? In Yellow?

@Exage03040 Corvette is cool, but I can use the Bronco far more. Bronco it is.
