What did Trump think would happen?

Nope, this isn't really me posting in this board, just a ghost of JJ past.
This is an interesting bit of guesswork about what Trump and his cronies expected to happen when the mob descended on the Capitol.
Or there would be chaos on the Senate floor and someone like Cruz would hope to capitalize on it to reach some quasi-legitimate “Compromise of 2021”. Or something. I’m not saying this makes much sense in terms of things that definitely had to happen. It’s more that they saw potential to seize the initiative in some real-time moment of uncertainty with the house divided and the crowd outside.
For anyone like me who only vaguely recalls the compromise of 1877, here's the Wikipedia article.
It was, shall we say, not a shining moment in our history. It effectively traded away the rights of freed slaves, in exchange for the Democratic Party setting aside its threat to make it impossible to seat a president. It would take almost 100 years for southern blacks to recover the ground they lost.
The analysis makes as much sense as anything: Trump was grasping at straws, hoping to force enough chaos to find a way to hold onto power, but not expecting the barbarians to succeed at storming the gate.

I think the intention, with direct power about to disappear the shitshow on the hill, was about one last loyalty test among gop congressmen, "whos with me". For this he needs to energize his base, and lock in the gop congresses future with his. Also kjeeping the steal myth going to grift the supporters.What doesn't add up is that they didn't expect that the crowd would tr and rush the capital. Then why understaff federal protection? (nat guard, cap police) That only makes sence if they were expecting thousands of counter demonstratos/antifa to show up to distract the angry mob. Then he could say, see the capital is being supported by antifa/deep state BS.

@just-jeepin The goal over the last few years has been to sew chaos and erode confidence in our system. I encourage anyone who hasn’t to read Naomi Klein’s Shock Doctrine. She is an actual socialist, but does a pretty good break down of Friedman’s disaster capitalism.
