So since I got my new phone, I've been listening to my own music via bluetooth in my van.

The other day I decided to listen while detailing, so I turned it on and popped the hatch. When I walked to the hatch I found my rear speakers weren't working.

Tried adjusting the fader, nothing. Assuming this was a wiring/connection issue, I tore the hatch apart to check wiring/connections. I found nothing there, so I put it back together.

Now last night I decided to really dig into this issue, tearing the dash and side panels apart to figure it out. P1070710.JPG P1070711.JPG
Followed all wiring and connections to find nothing wrong, so I thought I'd try my old head unit. Plugged it in and boom, rear speakers.

Well shit, must mean my head unit fried, oh well I'll put it back in so I can continue with my own music until I get another head unit.

Of course when I plugged it back in the radio turned on and ALL my speakers were working loud and clear..... WTF?!?!?

So I reconnect my phone and boom, rear speakers drop out.

Turns out there's a setting for bluetooth playback that you have to select which speakers you want it to play from and default is front only.....

Well, that was a nice waste of 3 hours last night.....

@Long_Voyager94 that's a setting in the head unit? What nonsense.

@jminer For a family hauler, guessing the idea is to drop out the rear speakers so the kids can listen to whatever they want.

There's a mountain bike forum I hang out on. It has a thread called 'Confessions From The Fuckwits'. The idea is that you admit to your stupid mistakes.

It's approaching the end of its first decade and over 9000 replies...and it contains some of the most entertaining gold I've ever experienced.

                    This is worthy...

Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle.

@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly I felt like such a dumbass when I finally figured it out.

Oh well, we all make mistakes. I can own them and laugh about it.

@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly that time I spent 2 hours trying to get solid core mig wire to work in my flux core machine would fit right in.

It's so mom and dad can listen to NPR in the front, and the kids in the back can just pop in their earbuds and listen to whatever kids listen to these days. My son just streams e-sports tournaments on long car trips, watching on his phone.

@Long_Voyager94 Now you can be that guy on the internet forums that has that one piece of crucial info. You are adding to the K-Van knowledge. You should be proud.

                              That's how I'm spinning this.

@Long_Voyager94 I have a policy for working on cars (or anything I suppose) that I call "always check the fuses first."

It basically is a reminder to myself to check the easiest solutions before ripping things apart. Sadly, I find myself in similar situations to you far too often anyways.

@WasGTIthenGTOthenNOVAthenGTInowA4 I mean that was my initial thought, but never in my life would I have thought to check settings on the stereo as I never noticed it before, so bad speakers or bad wiring were my first checks.
I pulled the speakers first to check them and they worked perfectly, so tracing wiring assuming something got chewed when the squirrel was reeking havoc seemed the next most likely scenario.
