Summer Roadtrip Plans?
-
After my fantastic trip down to OR and WA, I'm thinking about my next trip already, I've got the travel bug. Initially I'd thought about the North Cascades, but I'm kinda done with any drive over 3-4 hours for the time being.
I'm thinking of the San Juan islands in mid-July. Probably Orcas island for camping, Mount Constitution and then a trip to San Juan for English Camp and the very creepy looking Afterglow Vista masoleaum which looks like a place I'd be sacrificed by people who live in the forest.
@AestheticsInMotion @Dr-Zoidberg or any other PNW'ers any feedback or tips on the area?
Where is Oppo heading this summer in their cars?

@CarsOfFortLangley If my mother's knee replacement surgery goes well and she's not hobbled indefinitely, I hope to visit family in Florida again.
Unfortunately, those are two huge ifs, and I suspect I won't be that fortunate.
-
@CarsOfFortLangley I've already done my road trip. Thank goodness!
-
@CarsOfFortLangley ha, I'm going to the San Juan's tomorrow for three or four days. Staying at Friday Harbour as a base camp and hitting a different island each day. I've never been, but I'll be sure to let you know what I find.
What I found when researching the area is that Orcas Island had a scandal fifteen years back allegedly involving a cult-related murder. Pretty interesting stuff. Might try to find some of the relavant sites
-
@CB yeah, that was one hell of a road trip. The trip back must have been a rough drive.
-
@AestheticsInMotion oh yeah! Please do let me know!

Not only in my emotional wherewithal, but also because part of the Mustang is now stuck in the mud in rural Alberta.
-
@CarsOfFortLangley you might look into Fort Casey or Fort Ebey. Good scenery and some cool hikes.
-
@CarsOfFortLangley I’m spending 10 days on Salt Spring Island, communing with the rich hippies. It’s not really a road trip…more of a trip trip.
-
@CarsOfFortLangley We just did a road trip to Iowa and back for a hockey camp for my son. Next scheduled one is in August, we'll be heading to Moab, where I'll do the Bronco OffRoadeo, and the rest of the fam will do other Moab-y things. If I was going solo, I'd do the Rimrocker Trail from Montrose to Moab.
-
@ClassicDatsunDebate Nice!
I just don't see much of a future of adventuring here. Gas, FN related closures (not making a statement for/against, just stating a fact), population density, ferry costs and rednecks in the valley.... it all conspires to make BC a very unattractive place to overland.
-
@CarsOfFortLangley
Once you travel around Washington State, you really see what a lack of backroad availability we have in BC. -
@CarsOfFortLangley 3-4 hour drives are sorta the norm here. 4.5 hours south until a new state. 2.5 hours north to a new state. Moab is about 3
-
@CarsOfFortLangley On the complete other side of the continent, I'm planning a solo 600 mile drive up the coast to some friends in Maine and then making my way home though parts further west allowing me to come through the fabulous driving roads of West Virginia.
I just need to plan it out a bit more and then decide when to leave.
-
@CarsOfFortLangley Staying close this year. Switching up our camping trip from a place that's about three hours away, to one that's about an hour and a half away. I know some of y'all talk about your demand for gas being perfectly inelastic ... well, turns out ours is pretty damn elastic!
If I'm not hauling people or large things, and it isn't pouring rain, I'm taking the scooter. We took two short trips that were previously planned at the beginning of the summer. We like to drive around aimlessly as a family activity, but we aren't doing that these days. I'm seriously considering a maxi-scooter for longer trips by myself, even though they're all heinously ugly.
-
@Just-Jeepin My father had both his done. One about 15 years ago and one about 7 years ago. The second one was a much easier process due to updated surgical methods and he was up and moving the same day. His recovery was not too bad either. Hope the same is true for your mom!

@Shop-Teacher How much is gas in Chicagoland? We're at 6.32USD a gallon. Down from $7
-
@CarsOfFortLangley Rhode Island this weekend to maybe buy a trailer, Pennsylvania over July 4th, Maryland mid July for a big live steam show, Virginia later in July for a music festival, Pennsylvania again in late July for a big car show, Virginia probably two more times in August (Galax Old Fiddlers Convention, and also a concert).
-
@CarsOfFortLangley Not too far behind at $5.83 at the closest station to my house, although I saw $5.67 when I was out and about today.
-
@Shop-Teacher oh yeah, that's not cheap at all! I managed to fill up at $4.99 the other day somewhere in WA
@Shop-Teacher why is it like this? What's so unique about your region?
-
@CarsOfFortLangley We're no California, but Chicagoland being so far inland and being in the super corrupt state of Illinois (two out of our last three governors went to prison!)... it's not great here.
-
@CarsOfFortLangley Among other things, Illinois has one of the highest state fuel taxes in the US.
-
@CarsOfFortLangley Head down to the NC coast for a week in July, then at some point take the 8 yo on a two night camping trip, maybe see if my brother would be up for coming along, we'll see. That'll about do it.
-
Not sure yet, need to start planning because I just booked off work for pretty much all of August.

What?
Edit: I missed the 'part' part. What part?
