Cross-country move

Did it. Drove from Fredericksburg, VA to Temecula, CA last week, with a short stop in Tucson, AZ.
Here's the trip meter:
Sportwagen averaged around 32 mpg, way overloaded and with a Yakima roof box (also probably overloaded). Not bad.
Ton of rock chips in the paint now, though, as the car has been road tripped across the country at least three times while I've owned it.
As a bonus, I saw not one but four fires (two cars, a truck, and a small brushfire) on the sides of the road during the trip.
Anyway, it's California for me, for now.

@azw123
Congrats! I’m curious why Temecula? -
@ClassicDatsunDebate Camp Pendleton perhaps?

Congrats! I’m curious why Temecula?Not Camp Pendleton, as @CarsOfFortLangley guessed. However, I was working for the Marines at Quantico prior to my current assignment. Now I'm doing records management of a different sort for the federal gov't and there's an office in the area.

@azw123
I went from Rancho Cordova, Ca to Stafford, Va in 2014, then to Vancouver, Wa in 2019. There's a pretty good chance we've run across each other when I was working in Fredericksburg and my Lady's son was working in the mess halls in Quantico. -
@azw123 welcome to the insanity that is CA. Grew up in SoCal, moved north to Central Cal for undergrad, then went to Denver to work for 7 years and then back to Central Cal for the past 7 years. We like the weather near the ocean but damn if housing prices aren't out of control here. Glad we bought in 2015 before they went ballistic.
-
@azw123 ah darn. It was an educated guess haha
-
@Demon-Xanth Ha! Wild. Maybe. I think we talked about this before, but I was a volly firefighter at company 1 in Falmouth for a while, so I was all over the city of Fredericksburg on mutual aid calls. Small world.
-
@pyroholtz Thanks, yeah there's zero chance I'll buy anything out here. I'm still getting used to paying six bucks a gallon for gas...
On the plus side, believe it or not, the traffic is somehow less fucked up than where I came from in Virginia (the section of I-95 between Fredericksburg and Woodbridge is an absolute nightmare)
-
@azw123 yeah, gas is just another stupid expensive commodity. Hey, I hope you like wine, apparently that's what Temecula loves to make....it's probably the 3rd largest wine region in CA.
-
@azw123
Virginia traffic fights it all the time every day.
Southern California traffic gave up a long time ago. They know they're in an 8 lane 100 mile long parking lot so they just turn on the A/C, put on their music, and wait it out. -
@azw123 Somehow found a way to cut about 1000 miles versus my cross country journey but I did have a little bit extra on either side. And I definitely didnt take a direct route nor complete it under 48 hours:
-
@Wrong-Wheel-Drive Mine looked like this:
+~200 miles extra, spent tooling around Tucson for a few days.
Did the drive to Tucson in about 2.5 days, and Tucson to Temecula was about 6.5 hours.

Ahh so very much a cannonball! I know from the NC/TN border to Phoenix took me about 8 days and even that felt quick.

@Wrong-Wheel-Drive Ah, it wasn't so bad. I stopped in Nashville for BBQ, at least. Plus, I had places to be!
