Watch review: fitbit sense

Picked up a new Fitbit Sense as a gift to myself recently. I got a nice Amazon gift card from the parents of the kids I coach soccer for. I'm not an Apple guy, and while I have a samsung phone I didn't want to go all in on samsung, either. This seemed like a nice comprise.

Form
So comfortable, so nice fitting. For context, while I am a grown ass man who does manly things, I have teenie tiny little kid wrists. Big chronographs are off the table for me. Larger wristed folks might find this small.

The band has an odd design where you tuck the loose end back under the band, against your wrist. It seems like it wouldn't work but it does. The color I got is a nice bluish Grey. A+ all around.

Tech
Works well enough. Occasionally buggy, but some of that is user error, likely. You have your option of linking to Google Assistant or Alexa, so that handles most anything you could want for a smart watch. Answers calls and text, and you can actually have a conversation through your wrist and leave your phone in your pocket. Nice when I'm in the pool.

Tracking
Accurate. I've ran in it, it's perfectly fine. I swam laps with it in a 50m pool (it assumes a 25m pool) and the distance was spot on, to the meter, over a couple hundred meters (that's all I can do, I'm an awful swimmer).

If you care about any running metrics outside of overall time and distance, fitbit isn't for you. My garmin forerunner will give splits, cadence, elevation, and options to overlay them all together. It's more than you need, honestly. Fitbit gives you much less. If your tracking just how often you run, and how far, it's fine. Advanced metrics are not an option.

Overall, I like the thing. Good enough for where I'm at right now. I don't see myself training for something so hard I'd care about advanced running metrics, so fitbit and me seem to be at a happy place together.

@Wrong-Wheel-Drive it's not fully googleified even though they've been acquired. It's a nice little OS that works well with the touch screen. Swiping down gets you notifications, up gets you your stats, left scrolls through apps, and right for quick launch

@Cash-Rewards yeah but what sort of app store does it use? The lack of android or iOS app store integration has proven many times now that devices will fail without app support. Windows mobile and blackberry are good examples.

@Cash-Rewards so if you have a garmin forerunner already, why didnt you elect to stay within the garmin ecosystem with a new vivosmart band or the venu?

@dejock the equivalent garmin doesn't let you answer phone calls, oddly enough. I've owned one or two of each brand over the years, and found they're definitely better at different things. When I trained for a marathon, the fitbit got replaced pretty quick.

Nice. I have a Fitbit Inspire 2.

I just use it as a watch and to count steps. I don't use any of the advanced features. Got it for free through Airmiles.
