Condo remodel is almost done, RIP wallet

Here's a before/after of the kitchen. Thanks to an old connection from my tile-setting days, I've got some stunning marble countertops coming in next week that are probably worth about 50% of what I bought the condo for in 2013... I was told to cover labor costs and "we'll call it good". Uhm, yeah. I'm good with that! Not sure what the plan is for a backslash just yet. I want to see the countertops installed first.
The floor is hideous—I'll probably redo that myself. I like flooring
Popcorn ceiling will be removed (professionally) and then I'll be replacing all the lighting fixtures with modern, recessed LED options. Probably safe to say some hardwired LED strips will find their way in—such a fantastic lighting option when used well.

@AestheticsInMotion Quite the improvement there! Gotta love a hookup on some countertops. Looking forward to see how it looks. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you source your cabinets? I’m always cataloging ideas for a future kitchen remodel.

@JunkleMKVII no clue on the cabinets. I rolled the dice on a Craigslist handyman and seemingly struck gold. Older guy, ran a company for awhile, retired now and does it for fun. After he showed me some of his prior work, I basically told him that I wanted cabinets up to the ceiling, this is the budget, bearing in mind there's almost no natural lighting in the place make it look good, I'll stay out of your hair.
This is actually the first photo I've seen of the work since he started on it.

Looks great. Seeing something come to completion is very satisfying.Last year when I felt like I was re-enacting The Money Pit, I replaced all light fixtures in the house with LED, most of them recessed units. Such an improvement from the older boob lights and early 00s frilly Tuscan style fixtures. I wish I had a "guy" for my counters, but that frivolity is one I don't regret, hard cold surface counters are worth the expense (I chose a white marble looking quartz, subtle, not a flamboyantly veined design), and my cabinets were nice enough to not need replacement - I was even able to use the existing backsplash, thickness was very close, just needed some trim. I hope to never do it again.

Looks great! Floor looks good in the pics.

@AestheticsInMotion Weird -- when I dropped off your cooler, I'm pretty sure I saw piles of dead hookers

It doesn't matter how much it cost to get rid of that....teal, or whatever it is. Sooooo dated.
Also, good call on the ceiling-height cabinets. Our kitchen had a soffit that ran around the whole thing and the cabinets were hung below that. We axed the soffit and went with tall cabinets. So much more storage space. Also went with with drawers instead of lower cabinets. Seemed weird at first but now I can see how you can hold tons more stuff in there.

@Dr-Zoidberg different locations! The apartment has the hookers, the condo has arguably a worse crime in the teal paint.
